Connections & Continuity

Beginning
Iteration1 First iteration begin as a literal interpretation of a box kite. Used it as a device to look at potential in space and tectonics. Although there was a lot of thought in connections and geometries, it was rigid, obvious, and monotonous.
Iteration 2
Intrigued by the interstitial spaces of the highway that divides downtown Detroit from its suburban neighborhoods, A gesture was created taking the basic circular shape of the roads and simple layering of their behavior. Each level expands and shifts slightly attempting to create more of the intersecting shapes.
Iteration 2 Drawing Analysis
Iteration 2.5 Iteration 2.5, is made from the scraps of Iteration 2. As the strips of paper piled up after systematically creating the circles, there was an opportunity to explore more dynamic layering, geometries and slotting connections.
Mashrabiyas, Mandalas, & Mosques Mashrabiyas, Mandalas, and Mosques all originate from the Middle East and West Asia. Mashrabiyas are an architectural element used to protect from the sun and cool buildings, Mandalas are spiritual devices, and Mosques are religious buildings. All 3 are very different, yet share the same complexity in the intricate, geometric designs.
Iteration 3 These devices presented hierarchy in Iteration 3
Iteration 4 Refinement
