VOLUME REAL ESTATE LABOR Las Vegas’ labor force has grown at a robust rate since 2000 to approximately 790,000 workers. After population growth faltered through the downturn, expansion will resume as the national economy recovers and well-paying service-industry jobs draw residents to the region. Las Vegas is one of only a few places in the nation where service-level jobs can command wages comparable to white-collar positions. Give the metro’s dominant tourism industry, the leisure and hospitality sector accounts for 30 percent of all local jobs. Through 2015, this sector is forecast to produce 47,000 new positions as tourism strengthens in step with national job growth. The second largest sector is trade, transportation and utilities, which comprises 18 percent of the work force, followed by professional and business services, with 13 percent.
