Summer 2016 Children’s Programs July and August Programs Minecraft Mondays: Ages 8-13 July 11th & 25th and August 8th & 22nd from 10:30-11:30am Registration Required This new program offers game lovers a chance to explore the world of Minecraft, complete challenges, and learn new tricks! Please bring your own portable device and game.
Mad Scientists: Ages 7-12 Mondays from 2-3pm
Weekly Registration Required: Opens the Monday Prior
This summer, children have the opportunity to have some real fun with the all new Mad Scientists! Messy science experiments pertaining to fun and interesting topics each week will allow children to experience science in an exciting and innovative way. We will cover a range of scientific fields including biology, chemistry, geology, statistics, astronomy, geography, anatomy, forensic science, anthropology and more! This program will teach children to combine their curiosity, with science and fun!
Preschool Story Time: All Ages Tuesdays at 10:15am

Bring your little one every Tuesday morning for story time, sing-alongs and crafts! This includes a special visit from Muskoka’s Early Literacy Specialist Sandy Inkster on July 12th!
Let’s Play… Ages 6-12 Tuesdays from 1-2pm
No Registration Required
Let’s play chefs, let’s play pirates, let’s play archaeologists, let’s play Broadway! These are only a few of the themed activities that children will be able to participate in this summer. The let’s play program combines fun activities and challenges such as scavenger hunts, improv, and dinosaur digs with literacy and team work!
Primary Reading Club: Ages 4-8 Tuesdays from 3-4pm
No Registration Required
Keep up with reading over the summer with the Primary Reading Club. Listen to a story, participate in a fun activity, craft or game, and receive prizes for reading! Your child will get help choosing age appropriate books that suit their interests and will be exposed to the components of book reports and group discussions. Learn to love reading in this fun and welcoming environment.
Reading Buddies: Ages 4-12 Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3pm Registration Required Reading Buddies is a literacy based program that pairs children with trained teen and adult volunteers from the community. This program is aimed at children who struggle with reading or need help keeping up over the summer. Children will practice reading for half an hour with their buddy prior to reading club. Open to primary and junior readers. Space is limited so register today!
Story Time at the Gravenhurst Farmer’s Market: All Ages Wednesdays from 9am-1:30pm

Drop into the Gravenhurst Public Library’s Kids Zone each week at the Gravenhurst Farmer’s Market located at the Muskoka Wharf. Not only will we read stories, but we will provide fun activities for children of all ages, including crafts, games, sing-alongs and more! (Children must not be left unattended).
Lego Club: Ages 4-13 Thursdays from 1pm-2pm

Join us for an hour of fun, imagination, creativity and learning at the Gravenhurst Public Library’s weekly Lego Club meetings! Children will have the opportunity to explore and build with Lego. Weekly Lego Club challenges accompanied with self-reflection will enhance both literacy and problem solving skills.
Junior Book Club: Ages 9-12 Thursdays from 3-4pm

Keep up with reading this summer with the Junior Book Club. Enjoy weekly readings from short stories and chapter books, participate in a fun activity, craft or game, and earn prizes by completing weekly challenges! You will receive help choosing age appropriate books that suit your interests while exploring group discussions and book reports. Learn to love reading in this fun and welcoming environment.
Family Arts and Crafts Night: Ages 6-12 Thursdays from 6-7pm
No Registration Required
Bring the whole family to this fun and creative program. We will explore a variety of art and craft activities including painting, DIY projects, foil art and more! Running July 21st, July 28th, August 4th and August 18th.
Painting Pals with Nancy Hunter Thursdays from 6-7:30pm

This summer Nancy Hunter will be running four Painting Pals sessions on July 7thand 14th, and August 11th and 25th from 6-7:30pm.
Discovery Series! Our NEW Discovery Series Program is inspired by STEAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics! STEAM is hands on and experimental, uses tools and gives children options! This program is all about the process, not the product. This series encourages discovery and creativity!
Discover Math: Ages 6-12 Friday July 8th from 1-3pm Registration Required This week we will explore math through games! Everything from life sized board games to designing your own prototype!
Discover Animation: Ages 6-12 Friday July 15th from 1-3pm Registration Required Lights, Camera, Action! This week we will work together to make our own short film using different animation techniques.
Discover Music: Ages 2-5 Friday July 29th from 1-3pm Registration Required Singing songs, learning about new instruments, and making our own! This week we play with music!
Discover Engineering: Ages 9-12 Friday August 19th from 1-3pm Registration Required Designing buildings, learning about machines, pullies, levers and tools! We will build, test and rebuild!
Special Events Drop In Summer Luau: July 4th from 1-3pm Do the limbo, enjoy some summer snacks, play fun games and do a Hawaiian themed craft!
Drive-In Movie Night: July 22nd from 1-4pm Build your own amazing car, participate in races and games, play some Mario Go Kart, and end it all by watching the movie Cars with popcorn and drinks!
Glow Party: August 5th from 2-3pm Wear white and neon to this event and participate in glow-in-the dark crafts, games and activities!
Princess Meet & Greet: August 12th from 2:30-4:30pm Anna, Elsa, Ariel, and Belle, are all invited and so are you! Meet the princesses, listen to a story, do a sing along and make a princess craft! Come dressed in your most royal attire! (Location to be announced)
End of Summer Carnival: August 26th from 1-3pm Play carnival games, enjoy carnival snacks and watch Jake Differ perform at the Gravenhurst Public Library’s End of Summer Carnival! Held in the Trillium Court at the Gravenhurst Opera House.
