PLAN - PREPARE - BE AWARE Winter Storms - Safety Tips Gravenhurst is accustomed to experiencing a variety of weather and especially significant snow events. But winter storms can disrupt power supply and transportation and cause stress and safety issues. Bitter cold and winter storms kill more people than the number of Canadians killed by tornadoes, thunderstorms, lightning, floods and hurricanes combined. The following are some safety tips when faced with a significant snow event: • Avoid unnecessary travel • If you need to venture outdoors be sure to dress for it – wear mittens and a hat • Listen to weather forecasts before venturing out and check road conditions • If you must travel, do so during the day and let someone know your route and arrival time – check out www.ontario.ca/page/winter-driving • Avoid over-exertion when shoveling snow by taking frequent breaks • Bring pets and companion animals inside For more information visit:
