An invasive species, giant hogweed is a public health hazard and has already been identified as a threat in Muskoka. Giant hogweed grows about two to five metres in height with white flowers that measure about 60 cm in diameter. Its leaves can be about one metre in width and its bumpy stem is a purplish-red. The dangerous part of the plant is its sap. The sap reacts with sunlight to cause skin burns, blisters and sometimes blindness if it comes into contact with humans. If you spot giant hogweed on your property in your community, you can contact the invasive species hotline at 1-800-563-

The Plan will focus on our future. It will identify a community-based vision and a set of community priorities for Gravenhurst.
