April Break Contest & Pizza Party Okay, children and families! It’s time to come together as a team and show your talent using video footage and/or photos. Gravenhurst Fire Department is hosting an April Break Pizza Party for a family who submits winning photos or video of family members doing the following activities. Bring the family together and as a team, go through the following tasks: • smoke alarm recognition/familiarization, testing the alarm, • draw your home escape plan showing two ways out, and sound a smoke alarm and everyone evacuate the home. This is a great opportunity to show us your home escape plan and making sure everyone knows what to do in the event of being alerted to a possible fire in the home. BONUS POINTS! Take photos or video of family members (from the outside) evacuating the home as the smoke alarms are sounding in the background.

On December 20th, 2016 the Town adopted the new Town of Gravenhurst Official Plan. The Plan was subsequently approved by the District Municipality of Muskoka on May 15th, 2017. Since that time, a number of By-law updates have been approved in order to ensure its conformity to the new Official Plan and to address housekeeping and other technical amendments. This set of amendments are intended to clarify the intent of a number of regulations within the Zoning By-law and to remove duplication within it. In addition, further details and clarifications are proposed related to the installation and use of shipping containers. On land parking requirements have also been proposed for marinas, as these are currently missing from the by-law. A provision has also been added that would legalize all building permits that have been issued as of the date of the passing of this proposed amendment. The side yard setback requirements for two-storey boathouses is also proposed to be increased from 6.0 metres to 9.0 metres. Provisions related to the use of shipping containers in certain areas of the municipality are also proposed to be added.
