WINTER CLEANUP While the temperatures start to warm up and the sunshine feels great, people often take advantage of the conditions to get outside and survey what Old Man Winter is leaving behind. While there may still be some remnants of snow and snowbanks, there will definitely be evidence of garbage, plastic bags, tree branches, coffee cups etc. laying in wait to be picked up. Many will be having thoughts about what lays ahead of them in the way of notes in the “Job Jar”. And then the thoughts about “Where do I begin?” Don’t forget, there are only so many hours in the day, so stretch out those jobs and eventually they will be done, only to turn around and start all over. 1. Get out the barbecue. Thoroughly clean, attach the propane cylinder and turn on the cylinder. Test all hose connections with a 50/50 soap mix to ensure no leaks, bubbles exist.

FIREFIGHTER RECRUITMENT

2. Conditions may allow the raking up of leaves, dead grass and other debris. Rather than burning for disposal, a compost pile is suggested and much safer. Alternatively, yard waste can be taken to your local landfill site. 3. If you haven’t already, stockpile your upcoming season firewood away from the house. Stacking on the deck or verandah can dramatically increase the fire load and spread in the event of the fire. The Muskoka Fire Danger Rating Season is now in effect until October 31st. Resident are reminded that the “NO DAYTIME BURNING” rules are now in effect. Should you have any questions, or want additional information, please call Gravenhurst Fire Department at 705-687-3414
