BBQ SAFETY Planning a family cookout on the barbecue this weekend? There is nothing better than a family gathering celebrated with a meal cooked on the barbecue.

Safety tips while using a propane barbecue include: 1. When transporting the propane cylinder, make sure it is secured in the upright position. 2. After attaching the cylinder to the regulator and turning it on, be sure to soap/water test the connection ensuring no bubbles appear. If bubbles appear, re-tighten he connection and test again. 3. Do not wear clothing with baggy sleeves while barbecuing, as they can very easily come into contact with the burners, possibly catching fire or causing a serious burn. 4. If someone does get a burn, place the injury under cool running water. If the burn is serious, seek medical attention right away. 5. Create a “safety zone” around you and the barbecue where the children are not allowed to enter. Keeping an eye on children playing can sometimes be difficult. 6. Even as the barbecue cools down, surfaces can remain very hot. Do not touch the barbecue for a while after cooking is finished. 7. When shutting down the barbecue, turn off the supply valve first and allow residual propane in the hose to burn off. Once burned off, then close off the burner valves.
