1. Check the age of your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. If 7-10 years of age, seriously consider replacement. Definitely replace them if they are 10 years of age or older. 2. Replace the batteries and test the alarms making sure they work. 3. Make sure you have the required number of alarms. One per floor and outside each bedroom area. For added protection, install a smoke alarm inside each bedroom. 4. Have and practice a home escape plan if you do not already have one. Make it a family affair so everyone is involved and questions can be asked if necessary. If you have questions or want some help, call us. 5. Not only will your family benefit from these resolutions, but so could your pets. And remember, for Gravenhurst residents who do not have the ability to purchase a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, please call the Gravenhurst Fire Department at 705-697-3414. Do not go without!
