UPCOMING TIME CHANGE Things will start looking a bit brighter over the coming days. We can look forward to longer days and shorter nights as a time change is coming our way. On Sunday, March 14th our clocks “spring ahead” one hour to give us an extra hour of daylight. Time change is the historical time when firefighters promote this as an opportunity to change the batteries in your smoke alarms as well. “Change your Clock, Change your Battery” is your reminder to make sure your smoke alarms have new batteries and are in working condition. While at it, have a conversation with all family members about developing a home escape plan if you do not already have on in place. And remember: Nobody should be without a working smoke or carbon monoxide alarm. If you find yourself unable to purchase a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm and are a resident of Gravenhurst, please contact the Gravenhurst Fire Department. For more information please visit Gravenhurst.ca/fire or call 705-687 3414 ext. 223.
REDUCED LOAD PERIOD During the annual spring thaw period, typically early March to late May, District of Muskoka municipalities place ‘half-load’ or ‘reduced/seasonal load’ restrictions on the majority of its roadways. This year, the reduced load restriction in the Town of Gravenhurst will take place between Monday, March 15th, to Tuesday, May 31st (Restriction of 5 tonnes per axle). Purpose of a Load Restriction: Each spring, as frost comes out of the ground and moisture comes out of the roadbed, roads become softer and weaker making them susceptible to permanent damage caused by vehicles with heavy load. The seasonal load restriction protects the road and road base from damage caused by heavy vehicles and is ultimately intended to increase the lifecycle of municipal roadways. Please visit our website for full list of impacted roadways www.gravenhurst.ca
