Gravenhurst Fire Dpt. Do not let the sunshine and warming temperatures fool you. Mother Nature has a way of turning conditions around at the snap of her fingers. We can once again be inundated with freezing temperatures and an abundance of snow like we’ve never seen before. What can you do to help us? 1. Make sure all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working. 2. Make sure everyone is aware of the family escape plan in the event of a fire. 3. Ensure all outside vents are not blocked with snow/ice. 4. Ensure any indoor heaters are at least 3 feet away from combustible materials such as curtains, chairs/chesterfields. 5. Keep materials at least 3 feet away from the furnace allowing it to breathe fresh air. 6. Avoid the use of extension cords where possible. They are for temporary use only. 7. Clear or help a neighbor clear at least a 3 foot circle around the fire hydrant giving firefighters quick access in the event of an emergency. Everyone must be vigilant in our day to day activities and conscious of how quick accidents can happen. Be safe.
