CALL FOR MEMBERS - YOUTH COUNCIL The Town of Gravenhurst is seeking passionate individuals interested in advocating and addressing the issues that impact youth in the community for appointment to the Gravenhurst Youth Council for one school term (September 2021 to June 2022). Due to social distancing requirements and the public closure of the Municipal Office, all Youth Council meetings will occur electronically via the Zoom meeting platform. Those interested must meet the following criteria: • • • • • •
Between twelve (12) and thirty (30) years of age; A Canadian citizen; A resident of Gravenhurst; Must not be an employee of the Town of Gravenhurst or Gravenhurst Public Library; Submit a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check (if over the age of 18); AND Have the proper computer equipment (microphone and camera) to participate in virtual meetings.
MORE BBQ SAFETY Bringing your indoor kitchen expertise to the outdoors means bringing all the common sense safety elements with you. 1. Examples being, remain in attendance the whole time while cooking. 2. Do not allow electronics to take your attention away from the barbecue. If you need to answer the telephone, turn off the burners before taking the call. Distraction comes quick. 3. Use good quality oven mitts when moving hot pots and pans around. Burns are very painful and can be serious. 4. And don’t forget to create that “Safe Zone” for the children around the barbecue. 5. Do not barbecue indoors or in enclosed areas such as the garage or shed. 6. Keep the barbecue away from any combustible siding on your house. 7. If you happen to be barbecuing over charcoal, be sure not to use excessive amounts of starter fluids to get the charcoal to light. Many burns have resulted from unexpected flash fires when trying to light the charcoal. 8. When finished, place the charcoal into a non-combustible container/bucket and thoroughly drench with water. 9. Most of all, enjoy the barbecue and be safe. The Town is broken into two categories 1 - Urban Centre 2 - Outside of Urban Centre Recreational fires can be had anywhere in Town as long as they are: Max size of 61cm by 61cm & 6m away from flammable objects/structures. Non-Recreational fires can only be had outside of the urban centre as long as they are: Max size of 2x2m & 20ft away from flammable objects/structures.
