Whether it be a freezing ice storm, prolonged hydro outage or maybe even a tornado touchdown, an emergency is inevitable. How are you going to react? Are you prepared? The Town of Gravenhurst urges every homeowner to gather up and put together a basic Emergency Kit which includes: • • • • • • • • •
Two litres of water per person/per day. Canned food, energy bars and dried foods (replace once a year). Manual operated can opener. Battery powered flashlight and radio (including extra batteries). First aid kit. Candles with sturdy containers and matches/ lighter. Prescription medications. Extra house and car keys. Cash and cheques along with some change.
Important family documents such as identification, insurance and bank information. Consider taking photographs of all documents so that they’re stored on your mobile device. Purpose and Effect of By-Law 2021-33 On December 20th, 2016 the Town adopted the new Town of Gravenhurst Official Plan. The Plan was subsequently approved by the District Municipality of Muskoka on May 15th, 2017. Since that time, a number of By-law updates have been approved in order to ensure its conformity to the new Official Plan and to address housekeeping and other technical amendments. By-law 2021-33 is intended to clarify the intent of a number of regulations within the Zoning By-law and to remove duplication within it. In addition, further details and clarifications are proposed related to the installation and use of shipping containers. On land parking requirements have also been proposed for marinas, as these are currently missing from the by-law. A provision has also been added that would legalize all building permits that have been issued as of the date of the passing of this proposed amendment. The side yard setback requirements for two-storey boathouses is also proposed to be increased from 6.0 metres to 9.0 metres. Provisions related to the use of shipping containers in certain areas of the municipality are also proposed to be added.
