CARBON MONOXIDE AWARENESS The installation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms cannot be stressed enough. Working alarms save lives! Raising awareness and educating the public about the dangers of carbon monoxide continues throughout the fire service. Each year over 50 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning in Canada. Many others are left severely affected by CO poisoning complications. Know the symptoms of CO! Flu like symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, headaches, loss of consciousness and the worst of all …… death. If your CO alarm sounds and someone is experiencing any CO symptoms, get everyone out of the residence immediately. Once outside and away from the home, call 9-1-1 for assistance. If your CO alarm sounds but nobody is experiencing any symptoms of CO poisoning, check to see if the battery needs replacing before calling 9-1-1. Know the sound of your CO alarm

Community Funding Opportunities Now Available Through the Terence Haight Community Grant Program Apply Today! www.gravenhurst.ca/communityfunding Deadline for applications is November 30, 2022

Your CO alarm will sound differently then the smoke alarm. Take the time to test the alarms and let everybody hear them and be able to identify which one is sounding. Remember, there is a difference between a low-battery warning sound than the sound alerting you to a carbon monoxide issue. Like smoke alarms, CO alarms also have a life expectancy (typically 7-10 years), at which time they will also make a beeping noise. Be sure to check the manufacture date and specifications, as they may be due for replacement. If you are a Gravenhurst resident and do not have the means to purchase a carbon monoxide alarm, please call the Gravenhurst Fire Department at 705-697-3414
