FIRE WON’T WAIT - PLAN YOUR ESCAPE Enough cannot be said about the importance of “working co/smoke alarms”. They are the most valuable tool when it comes to early detection/ warning and saving lives. Countless lives are lost because of either inoperable smoke alarms or no smoke alarms period. For the sake of a $10.00 – 12.00 smoke alarm, lives can be saved. While smoke alarms initiate the alarm telling you of a fire, the actions you now take can dictate the outcome. This is a where the Family Escape Plan we have been promoting for the past 3 weeks come into play. 1. Practice the family escape plan the family has developed together. 2. Rehearse until all family members are aware of their responsibilities. 3. Practice the plan during the daytime hours and later evening hours. 4. Remember you may only have 2-3 minutes to escape the home safely. 5. Crawl under the smoke to your nearest, safest exit. 6. Leave the building and go to your designated meeting place. 7. Call 911 and report your emergency. And remember…. Once Out – Stay Out! If you are a resident of Gravenhurst and do not have the means to purchase a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, please contact the Gravenhurst Fire Department at 705-687-3414.
