FIRE WON’T WAIT - PLAN YOUR ESCAPE The past four weeks, we have written about the importance of working smoke/co alarms and home escape plans. Everyone needs to understand these critical items when it comes to early detection of fire and what to do in the event of a fire. Lives are needlessly lost due to the lack of smoke alarms and being unable to escape the heat and smoke. It is absolutely critical that everyone has working smoke/co alarms. It is absolutely critical that everyone has a family escape plan. And it is even more critical that everyone would be able to execute the plan by getting out safe and sound. Develop and practice a fire escape plan….it is your way out. 1. Have two ways out. 2. Make sure everyone can operate the windows without difficulty. 3. Make sure all doors operate properly. 4. Crawl under the smoke. It is cooler, easier to see and breathe. 5. Once Out – Stay Out. If you are a resident of Gravenhurst and do not have the means to purchase a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, please contact the Gravenhurst Fire Department at 705-687-3414
