FIRE SAFETY CHECKLIST Now may be a good time to create a checklist of things to do in the coming fall months. With our Canadian weather system, we know all so well that conditions can change overnight, so being well prepared and ready is to our advantage. 1. Clean all eaves and gutters of leaves, pine needles and other debris. 2. Remove debris and any dead vegetation away from any building foundations. 3. Check any chimneys for leaves, nests and other possible debris. Ensure any spark arrestors are in good condition and unobstructed of any debris. 4. Be sure all fuel containers are capped and properly sealed. Store the fuel containers in a shed or detached garage and away from any sources of heat. 5. Stock your firewood away from the house. This will decrease the fire load and lessen fire spread should a fire start in this area. 6. Do your monthly check and testing of smoke alarms. Working smoke alarms save lives. These are just a few tasks to get you started and more tips and ideas will be coming your way.
