hrow away the idea of a cheap MUA We understand budgets are important to your overall planning so here are some tips from us photographers.
1. Use a Certified MUA e recommend that only use certified makeup artists ... one of the many pit falls is giving an inexperienced or enthusiasts makeup artists a chance to showcase their skills and build their portfolio ..but in case of a photoshoot be wary the risk associated with that decision. if you need recommendations we'd be happy to provide trusted makeup artists.
xpericned photographers see every imperfection when they edit headshots therefore Cheap makeup is good for practicing but for Professional photoshoots it's better to go all out for quality. However, you can use your eager enthusiast friend as your assistant or even bring them along on your appointment with the MUA as they might silently learn (if the makeup artist allows their presence)
3. Do your research ook at their previous work ... try to find a client with a similar shade to yours if that will calm your nerves. what is more important than finding a good MUA is if they are acquainted with your skin type, shade and texture. ind out from their previous clients about how their photos turned out (not entirely necessary) but might open up some insights from testimonials.
5. Feeling Lucky ? oing makeup yourself ? one of the frequently asked questions... If you've been doing makeup yourself for work etc. Then you may have the confidence to do your own for the shoot that ia a decision that can only be made by you.
his may adequate for corporate portraits as it doesn't demand a huge emphasis on your makeup (assuming you understand the principles like foundation and other essential steps) But for glam or beauty shots bear in mind it might require a higher skill level We don't wish to dissuade you from such a thing ...it might even save you money that can be used for other things like accessories.
6. Application Techniques ne of the most disturbing things I've learnt _ as a photographer is that the wrong application technique is worse than going all natural .... photographers who use flash will immediately notice that when they load the photos for editing that the makeup is uneven or possibly they encounter brush strokes that will be a pain to fix. Thankfully this can be fixed but we photographers would rather not have to deal with that as it may slow us down and cost you deliver time. In addition be sure to gently tap your face to absorb perspiration (Do not wipe!) Don't over do it .. use of too much foundation may lead to cracking during the shoot.
7. Know your Skintone eople with lighter skintones, Be aware of the shade of makeup you use If you go into the sun then your skin may compensate for the change and lead to your shoulders having a different shade from the makeup. Darker skinned models have a harder time because the shades of brown are so infinite so be sure to find one who specializes in such.
8. Time of Day vening shoots Wear heavier makeup as this won't be affected by the heat A lighter shade of makeup might be better for hot weather as it helps the face to breathe A great tip is to have your makeup done on site if you can. Some studios have facilities to accommodate that necessary process ...(be sure to tell them before hand)
9. Conduct
on't be late to your appointment Show up a few minutes early just so you can relax and enjoy the experience. Don't be rude to your makeup artist Be as professional as possible They're probably the last step before meeting your photographer Sit relax and enjoy the conversation you're about to have with your new bestie. It's is in your best interest to ask questions before and during the process to improve the relationship (unless the mua tells you not to move) Dont forget to leave a review on their Pages.
10. Last but not Least Dont forget to smile energy is contagious Be sure to let us know who your makeup artist is before hand ...we might just give them a shout out ! For more information: Whatsapp +(592) 603 3434 Also check out our retouch reels
