Success Stories GRAHAM GILLAM
Ggillam@harriswilliams.com, +1.804.887.6074 B.S. in Business Administration, honors, University of Bath M.B.A., Darden School of Business, University of Virginia Graham joined Harris Williams & Co. after completing a summer internship with the firm while obtaining his M.B.A. at Darden. Prior to attending Darden, Graham spent six years in corporate finance with Raytheon Company, where he spent time in London, Los Angeles, and Boston. “My time in corporate finance provided me with a variety of opportunities to work closely with the C-suite. I knew from this experience that I wanted to join a bank that early on allowed me to develop as a trusted adviser to management teams and clients while combining my passion for finance. HW&Co. offers a truly unique experience in this regard; and from day one as an Associate I have had the opportunity to help drive real value as a member of the deal team, and regularly interact with our clients and management teams to help them realize the optimal outcome for their business.” As a Summer Associate, Graham wanted to be sure his transition from a large multinational delivered the change in environment he was looking for in his next opportunity. “I could not have been more delighted to see that what I was told during recruiting was a very accurate portrayal of reality: HW&Co. offers tremendous opportunities to get exposure to every facet of the deal life cycle, all the while working with highly talented colleagues who are genuinely interested in the long-term success of the firm as well as your individual career.”
NEHA SHAH
Nshah@harriswilliams.com, +1.804.887.6036 B.S. Accounting, cum laude, George Mason M.B.A., The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University Neha started her career in public accounting with Ernst & Young. Working in audit for five years, she developed a strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting, which has been an integral skill throughout her career. During her time in public accounting she worked closely with private equity funds, which piqued her interest in M&A. She decided to pursue an M.B.A. at Fuqua with a concentration in Finance. In between her first and second years at Fuqua, Neha had an internship in the Downstream Controllers Group at ExxonMobil. Through the internship, she gained exposure to energy end markets and enjoyed learning about this dynamic industry. “While the industry exposure was invaluable, I learned that corporate finance was not what I was looking for in a long-term career and decided to pursue investment banking. I joined HW&Co. in 2013 to work in the Energy, Power & Infrastructure Group, which would allow me to combine my end market interest with M&A. I have found that support from the senior team is a true differentiator for HW&Co; as an Associate, we are given a great deal of responsibility to manage the day-to-day activities of sell-side processes, and Vice Presidents through Managing Directors are completely accessible and willing to provide guidance. I think this type of supportive environment is a huge reason why so many of the bankers at HW&Co. are able to succeed and establish long-term careers with the firm.”
