Open Doors to a New Career with Auto Body Repair Techniques If you want to open a door to an exciting, long-lasting and rewarding job in the automotive industry, you must take the appropriate steps. Even if you have no experience in auto body quite yet, an auto body repair techniques post-secondary program from auto body schools can be the very door opener you need. That’s because it provides an alternate route towards obtaining hardto-get apprenticeship positions with courses approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. The goal of this unique offering at Centennial College is to help you gain the practical skills you need in Auto Body Repair Techniques that will lead you to your first job. The skills gained through the program ensure that you’re able to work on the most current vehicles with a leading edge and in-depth knowledge. In order to be eligible for this 36-week program, you must present at minimum an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. Also required is a compulsory English 12C or U or skills assessment or equivalent. However, possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission. The curriculum of Auto Body Repair Techniques has been modeled on the apprenticeship inschool program and has been structured to allocate about 40 per cent of your schedule to handson practice time. Sample course titles include: Applied Work Practices and Procedures, Body and Frame Repair, Mathematics for Autobody, Communication Skills for Autobody and much more. Within the courses offered at Centennial College, you’ll learn how to repair automobile bodies and prepare them for painting. You will also gain practice in welding using MIG and oxyacetylene equipment, auto body and frame repair, refinishing procedures and related mechanical systems. The classes are all taught in a simulated work environment at a state-of-the-art auto body repair lab. A Minimum D grade in all subjects with an overall GPA of 2.0 is required for graduation. From your time at Centennial College’s Auto Body Repair Techniques program, you will gain a certificate that is recognized by the auto industry. Graduates may have an opportunity for credit toward their apprenticeship requirements and the program provides opportunities for you to find a part-time job while in school and permanent full-time positions upon graduation. The positions you are able to obtain include: auto body apprentice, apprentice painter, service advisors, appraisal trainee and parts technician. From these entry-level jobs, you can move into specialized areas of the field and eventually obtain supervisor or managerial positions.
