Children Media Program Facilitated from Modern Classrooms Did you know that the facilities from which a college program is conducted are just as important as its curriculum? That’s why students within Centennial College’s Children’s Media program are already at an advantage just based on the environment from which they learn. The program falls under the School of Communication, Media and Design umbrella. All programs within this school are housed in the Story Arts Centre campus. Located in mid-town Toronto, in the heart of the city’s media cluster, The Centre is a thoroughly restored, 104,000 square-foot modernist masterpiece serving as a dramatic backdrop for some 300 multimedia workstations and a full suite of digital imaging and editing facilities. Students also find stateof-the-art computer labs, large lecture halls and every tool they need to hone their creativity and be fully prepared for their field. As the only child entertainment Toronto - offered post-graduate program, this undertaking has set the standard high in a number of ways - aside from its standout facilities. Admission Requirements: As this is a three-semester, Graduate Certificate program applicants must have previously completed a college diploma or university degree program in any discipline. Also considered will be applicants with partial post-secondary education (minimum two years) and relevant work experience. To ensure that students are dedicated to becoming highly skilled children’s content producers, they also must attend a mandatory program admission session to submit an up to date resume and complete a writing assessment. Curriculum: Students learn to create a range of entertainment products film, TV, books, education products, games, mobile and interactive media for the rapidly growing and continuously changing children’s market. This is completed through attendance in classes during which they cover topics such as: survey of children’s entertainment, licensing and merchandising, the production process, marketing integrated media for children’s entertainment, television production, children’s books and more. Learning from professionals who have experience in the field makes the hands-on practical learning even more beneficial as the instructors can draw on their own experience to make activities even more “real life” like. These instructors also help to connect students to their personal networks of professionals.
