GROWTH & GRATITUDE through Serving Others

Pub Note by Kristin Lunsford

WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS

~ ROBERT INGERSOLL

Giving back to others and serving is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences we can have as human beings.

In January of this year, Brian and I, along with some friends/fellow home inspection business owners, spent a couple of days building a house for a family near Tijuana, Mexico. Yes, we were actually the ones doing the work! I learned to use a power saw and a nail gun! Brian was up on the roof learning to lay shingles!

The family we built the house for worked alongside us to help and it was amazing to see just how in awe they were of what they were about to receive. We were building a 3-room house with a roof and electricity. Many people in that area just sleep on the ground with makeshift structures that look like little forts. Just by giving them a concrete slab to live on and a real roof over their heads will improve their health dramatically. Something we really take for granted.

It’s amazing how doing community service not only helps those in need, but it also brings a sense of purpose and joy to our own lives. Participating in a mission trip like this requires a lot of hard work and dedication, as building a house from the ground up is no easy task. But the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that comes from seeing the finished product is truly indescribable.

Not only did we get to work alongside a team of like-minded individuals who wanted to pay it forward, but we also got to interact with the local community and learn about their culture and way of life.

In addition to the physical labor involved in building a house, mission trips like these also offer the opportunity for personal growth and reflection. A chance to step out of our comfort zones, learn new skills, and challenge ourselves in ways we never thought possible. They also provide moments to reflect on our own lives and the blessings we have, and to remember the importance of gratitude and empathy for those battling difficult situations.

This trip was truly a rewarding experience. It gave each of us the opportunity to give back to others, make a real difference for this family, and grow as a person. It’s a reminder that even small actions can have a big impact, and that serving others is a fundamental part of living a fulfilling life.
