‘Tis the Season…

FOR FOOTBALL!

7 Things Football Teaches Us About Life

If you know our family, then you know we enjoy football. Like so many Americans, our crew loves watching college football Saturdays and NFL Sundays (and Thursdays and Mondays).

However, our nation’s favorite sport took on a whole new meaning for us when our son started playing tackle football when he was six years old. Jake is now ten and recently began his fifth-straight season. It can be scary to see some of the hits that football players

take, and when it is your own child, it makes you grimace that much more.

Consuming football and all the hype and excitement that is generated around it is awesome. Just look at how much the Jaguars have energized Jacksonville so far this fall, the Georgia-Florida game is this month, youth leagues like our son plays in, middle and high school, and so on. Autumn, even our quality of life, wouldn’t be the same without America’s favorite sport.

Though it is only a game, there are life lessons that can be learned from this entertaining pastime:

1. You won’t win every game. Same goes for life. You won’t win at everything. You might not get the big promotion you had hoped. You might not get the listing you thought for sure you were going to get. You might not be the winning offer on your dream house. You don’t give up though after that let down. It’s a chance to evaluate what could be changed for the next game, opportunity, or the next client that comes along. What could you change to help you win the next game or win the next offer or get that promotion?

2. You will get knocked down. It is inevitable that you will get tackled in football and the same is true in everyday life. There will be times when you get hit from all directions and sometimes you won’t even see it coming. Getting knocked down is temporary. You don’t stay down. You can get back up and get right back in the game.

3. Be coachable. Whether a player is in youth league or the NFL, there is always something to be learned, so it’s important to listen to your coach or those that have gone before you. No matter what stage of life you are in, you can still learn and grow from others.

4. Be a team player. Teammates come and go. You may think the group of people that you are surrounded by now will stay the same forever, but chances are there will be changes. Whether someone retires, leaves or decides to join another team or is forced to another team, change is inevitable. And remember, just because you are no longer on the same team doesn’t mean you can’t wish them well. It’s okay to still cheer for them to do well.

5. Move on after a loss. Don’t let a loss keep you down for too long. A new day is coming and one loss,

penalty or false start can’t make you lose focus on your end goal. Be ready to get back out on that field and take charge and make changes to come back victorious next time.

6. Take breaks. You can’t be on your “A game” all the time. That is why sports teams have seasons. The players need time to regroup and relax. Same in life, you have to take some time away from your craft. Time for yourself can bring clarity.

7. Healthy habits lead to big rewards. Whether it be Super Bowl champions or successful business people, most high-level achievers have similar approaches to their daily lives: A positive mindset, consistent physical fitness plan, clean eating, curiosity to learn, quality sleep and they prioritize time with family, friends and community. This formula leads them to win after win, year after year. Find joy in your daily habits and you will find joy in your daily life.

Our family hopes you’re enjoying football season like we are and maybe even learning something about life along the way.

CARLOS MOVEMENT MORTGAGE WILCOX

Make the Movement Move

When Carlos Wilcox launched his career in mortgage lending in 2002, he was just 22, with little knowledge of the lending business. Yet, what began as a chance opportunity has turned into a thriving, 20+ year career. In mortgage lending, Carlos has discovered his pathway to service and fulfillment.

FALLING IN LOVE WITH LENDING

“Most folks don’t seem to go to college to become a loan officer,” Carlos begins with a laugh.

As a young adult, Carlos found himself working as an assistant golf professional at a local golf course. He befriended a member, who one day asked Carlos to join his mortgage company.

“I said, ‘What’s a mortgage?’ I was 22 years old and very naive about the mortgage industry, but I took him up on his offer. The golf business was fun, but it was a lot of long hours, six days a week, with little upward movement. So he brought me under his wing, and I learned the business inside and out.”

Over the years, Carlos came to fall in love with his profession. The opportunity to help others make one of the most significant financial decisions of their life was exhilarating and rewarding. He’s ridden the waves of strong and weak markets over the past two decades, becoming one of Jacksonville’s most consistent producers. He is now leading and growing the Northeast Florida market for Movement Mortgage.

MAKE THE MOVEMENT MOVE

By 2015, Carlos was thriving in business. There was just one problem — he was burnt out.

“I was working for a company that was all about making money. That can be great, but the value you were to the team was all about how many loans you closed each month. And that’s so much of how our industry is — how much money can we make from the people in our communities? There’s greed there,” Carlos reflects honestly.

Jacksonville Real Producers • 17 16 • October 2023 @realproducers realproducersmag.com
The Movement Mortgage Team: (left to right) Sarah Burbage, Travis Gibbon, John Owen, Chelsea Sammons, Alaina Johanson, Carlos Wilcox, Tyler Tatum, Jamie Holmes, Jeremy Rigdon, and not pictured Tanner Creed.

Carlos knew there must be a better way. That’s when he began learning about Movement Mortgage. “I started learning about how the company is about giving back to communities, and it was something I had never experienced in the mortgage space. It was very unique. I could make money at any mortgage company, but the significance of Movement’s approach brought me in. I want to work for a company I feel good about every day.”

Carlos transitioned to Movement Mortgage in 2015; he’s now been with the company for nearly nine years.

Movement Mortgage returns a staggering 49% of profits to the communities they serve. One of their biggest projects is building charter schools in underserved communities; they aim to build 100

schools in the next decade. They’ve even created a new term in the industry — Impact Lender. An Impact Lender is any mortgage company that gives 10% or more of its profits back to the communities they serve. Movement Mortgage is leading the way by giving back nearly five times that amount.

“There are other mortgage companies joining the movement now. We aren’t just trying to benefit Movement Mortgage, but the entire community, the entire country. The hope is for many more lenders to become Impact Lenders,” Carlos explains. “If all else is equal, why would a real estate agent or borrower not want to work with a company that gives 49% of its profits back to communities? We want to let people know that yes, we’re really good at mortgages, but our purpose is to change lives around the world.”

LOAN OFFICER TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Carlos’ team of loan officers is a seasoned bunch; most have all been with Movement Mortgage for quite some time.

Alaina Johanson has been with Movement Mortgage for 8+ years.

Chelsea Sammons has been with Movement Mortgage for 3+ years.

Jamie Holmes has been with Movement Mortgage for 6+ years.

Jeremy Rigdon has been with Movement Mortgage for 8+ years.

John Owen has been with Movement Mortgage for 9+ years.

Sarah Burbage has been with Movement Mortgage for nearly 5 years.

Tanner Creed has been with Movement Mortgage for 4+ years.

Travis Gibbon is new to Movement Mortgage and has been in the mortgage industry for 20+ years.

Tyler Tatum has been with Movement Mortgage for nearly 2 years. FOR MORE INFORMATION, VISIT HTTPS/ LO.MOVEMENT.COM/CARLOS-WILCOX/HOME.

ELEVATING OTHERS

Positive

Broker-

and encouraging

Owner

Tanya Cosmini

works hard and finds joy in elevating others. Last year she opened her own brokerage, Realty ONE Group Elevate, and closed nearly $40M in real estate sales. By helping others achieve their personal and professional goals and reach their greatest potential, Tanya is rising to new heights, too.

Tanya’s heritage is a source of inspiration. Her paternal grandfather’s family had been displaced from their ancestral home during the Armenian Massacre and made a new home for themselves in Syria. Her father immigrated to the US with his guitar and one suitcase, put himself through engineering school, and became a successful executive at General Electric. While on vacation in Europe, he met a beautiful woman from Denmark. They married and started their life in New York.

Tanya was born in Queens and raised in Connecticut. Growing up as a first-generation American, she treasured her family and understood the importance of connection. She also developed a deep appreciation for people’s stories. Tanya enjoyed helping people learn about each other so they could find ways to improve themselves and their community.

“By the time I was a teen, I was very involved in educating others about the Armenian Genocide. I hoped that the US would recognize this tragedy and set aside a day of remembrance,” she explains.

Tanya did not plan to pursue a political career. She wanted to become a veterinarian and open her own practice. She applied herself diligently, completing her pre-vet classes and earning a degree in animal science in 2001.

ELEVATING PURPOSE

Before pursuing graduate school, Tanya spent the summer as a

substitute teacher. She worked with students in several grades, but felt the greatest connection and enjoyment as she interacted with high school students. Helping them elevate their understanding of who they were and what they were capable of accomplishing inspired her to re-evaluate her own life plan.

“I knew that I wanted to be a mother,” Tanya smiles, “and realized that I would not have much time to invest in a family of my own if I was spending most of my time and energy building a successful veterinary practice.”

Tanya enjoyed learning and took a job as a researcher at Yale. The following year she decided to earn a master’s degree in education, and in 2002 Tanya started teaching high school biology. Two years later she married a serviceman who was stationed in Virginia. He was soon deployed and Tanya kept herself busy with school projects and volunteer work.

In 2005, Tanya’s beloved father had a stroke. The experience deepened her determination to help others see potential rather than problems.

ELEVATING EXPECTATIONS

Tanya was involved in a car accident in 2007 and was released from work for 30 days so she could heal. She took the opportunity to do some soul-searching. Even though she enjoyed teaching, Tanya wanted to help even more people elevate their lives.

Jacksonville Real Producers • 23 realproducersmag.com
Photos By Renee Parenteau

She heard that teachers make great real estate agents, and she did a little research. Tanya knew she had found her calling and became a licensed REALTOR®.

“I started ‘at the bottom’ by working open houses and expired listings,” shares Tanya.

“I am a problem-solver by nature, and I genuinely enjoyed the challenge of advising and strategizing with my customers. I was on a mission to elevate hope, and found immense fulfillment in collaborating to help my customers fulfill their goals.”

The energetic entrepreneur learned the importance of work-life harmony when she became a mother. Dylan (born in 2008) and Trevor (born

in 2010) filled her life with adventure. In 2012, professionals told Tanya that one of her sons was on the autism spectrum. Although she understood experts’ recommendation to place him in a special education program, Tanya thought about her experiences as a former teacher, a female entrepreneur, and a mother. She believed in her son’s potential and did not want him to “live down” to a label.

Tanya advocated for her son to be in a regular classroom with a one-on-one assistant. She believed that having her son exposed to traditional students would raise her son’s expectations of himself, and provide opportunities for his classmates to elevate their level of compassion. And she was right.

The next decade flew by quickly. Tanya and the boys moved to Florida. Life had gotten complex; Tanya was granted a divorce before she had even gotten her Florida real estate license. Despite the challenges, she never stopped dreaming big for herself, her sons, or those she was ready to serve. Tanya poured herself into her new community and collaborated with agents in her new city.

ELEVATING DREAMS

Tanya Cosmini became a licensed real estate broker in January 2022. By the summer, she was selected to be the broker to represent Realty ONE Group franchises throughout northeast Florida. Inspired by a desire to lift people higher, the new branches were named Realty ONE Group Elevate.

To help agents skyrocket in life and in their careers, the focus of the Elevate team is three-fold: increasing net income by allowing agents to keep more of their commission, building wealth through investments, and earning passive income through recruiting efforts.

Tanya and Realty ONE Group Elevate team continue to work smarter to live better lives with the people they love.

Tanya is proud of the Realty ONE Group (R1G) core values. It is no surprise that the fastest-growing brokerage in Florida is also in the top 1% in the nation with 465 locations and over 19,000 agents. R1G has the best paid agents regardless of production (allowing agents to keep an average of 90% of their commission or more), unlimited use of

tech tools valued at over $1K each month, affordable health care options, and opportunities for earning passive income. She is proud of these advantages, but Tanya is even more thrilled about the way that R1G empowers her to help elevate agents.

“R1G prizes collaboration,” Tanya notes. “They taught me to listen to people and help them create blueprints to reach their own goals. At R1G Elevate, agents can choose from seven training sessions each week It is an honor to assist agents in creating a unique road map for their personal and professional success and then help them stay accountable to work their plan.”

ELEVATING LIFE

Tanya, Dylan, and Trevor enjoy traveling and have a shared goal of visiting every state before Trevor graduates. They love spending time with friends and family, and playing with their dog Louie. Tanya enjoys horses as well.

She is passionate about the generational freedom that comes from real estate. Tanya co-owns two commercial buildings and an Airbnb.

“In life, there’s always a reason to cry,” Tanya observes, “but I look for the reason to keep going with a smile and I share that with others! My parents taught me to work hard without being afraid to fail and to never give up. That is how I live my life, and how I encourage others to live theirs. If that resonates with you or someone you know, I would love to talk!”

The Glynn Team

FLORIDA NETWORK REALTY OF BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY HOME SERVICES

When one thinks of The Glynn Team of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Florida Network Realty, they will likely consider adjectives including professional, experienced, connected, and effective negotiators. Both REALTORS® and buyers and sellers alike respect this team, and for good reason.

With an abundance of professional successes both in real estate and beyond, The Glynn Team brings solid negotiation, contract, and acquisition experience to the table for every client. Combine their knowledge and expertise with their community focus, and it’s a recipe for success for all involved.

REAL ESTATE BEGINNINGS

Still, everyone begins at the beginning. The following decisions, opportunities, and experiences are what set REALTORS® apart, and The Glynn Team is no exception.

Their beginnings trace back to their Wisconsin roots when Tracy began in real estate soon after graduating from college with a BA in public relations. After graduation, Tracy’s mom, a REALTOR®, encouraged Tracy to get her real estate license and work in the industry until she decided on a career track. In 1996, Tracy did just that, and ended up loving being a REALTOR® and stayed. The two met and married

soon after Tracy sold Ben his first home. Shortly after, in 2000, Ben joined Tracy in real estate and created the first iteration of The Glynn Team.

By 2007, the duo had gained experience and success. And together, they had “developed a good business model,” Ben shares. The model grew from an opportunity to take over home sales for a new developer entering the new construction market there. Eventually, the Glynns served as the exclusive sales team for three home builders in the area. Ben worked with the buyers purchasing a new home, while Tracy worked with buyers who also needed to sell a home.

STANDING STRONG; INTEGRITY IN TOUGH TIMES

Entering 2007, the Glynns moved from just selling to becoming invested partners in a new 55 and over condominium development just as the housing market began its shift. The couple was running a successful boutique brokerage with six agents and an administrative person and was excited to expand their expertise. In the subsequent months, sales of the new project slowed and came to a halt, which forced the Glynns to make a difficult decision.

As investors in a failing venture, they had to decide whether to file for bankruptcy and start over or continue to honor their commitment. “We stuck it out,” Ben shares. Ben and Tracy chose to return to corporate work, working for other companies to continue making payments toward their obligation, which prompted their first move out of state.

Beyond their jointly-owned boutique brokerage in Wisconsin, the couple has varied professional experience. Ben has worked with large national companies in recruitment, management, and sales, including Honeywell, Johnson Controls, and Philips Lighting. Tracy started a new career as a physician recruiter and eventually worked her way up to a role as VP of Talent Solutions for a national mental health company.

BUILDING A FLORIDA TEAM

Tracy began her Florida real estate career in 2015, and Ben joined her in 2018. On their decision to continue in real estate, they share, “We love helping people through the process and trying to keep it as fun and exciting as possible. We feel honored to be part of such an important time in our clients’ lives and take that responsibility very seriously. Moving is one of the most stressful times in a person’s life, and we’ve been there. Personally, we have lived in nine homes in our 25 years of marriage and moved across state lines three times with our then elementary school-aged children.”

“Starting as a husband-and-wife team, we offer two unique perspectives. Aside from our out standing and comprehensive marketing, we are well-connected in the Northeast Florida real estate community serving on various boards and committees, which allows us to offer our clients maximum exposure.

“The public often doesn’t fully understand the value of these relationships when it comes to promoting and negotiating offers. Our personal and profes sional connections with other agents have earned us a reputation as knowledgeable, experienced, and professional, which allows for a smoother transac tion and a better deal for our clients.”

The team is also certified as relocation profes sionals and part of BHHS-FNR’s relocation team. The certification gives them an edge, as they are among the first to know about buyers relocating to the area.

REALTOR® Michelle Bester joined the Glynns in 2023, bringing five years of real estate success. Prior to real estate, Michelle also had extensive corporate experience in the travel and car rental, corporate vehicle leasing industries in South Africa before moving to the US and beginning her real estate career in 2018.

OUT AND ABOUT WITH THE GLYNNS

The Glynns have two adult children. Madysen is a successful entrepreneur at 23 and owns two homes in Jacksonville Beach with her husband, Tyler. The couple was recently married in Oahu, Hawaii. Jake is 21 and entering his senior year at FSU studying Criminology. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in sports management.

As a family, they “love to vacation together and have a tradition of planning a family vacation every other year instead of giving Christmas gifts,” they share. “When we’re together at home, we enjoy cooking, watching sports and playing with all of our dogs—five in total!”

When they’re not working, they love eating at the area’s “great restaurants, biking on the beach, golfing, swimming, or listening to live music.”

Close to the Glynns heart is service to the community. Currently, Ben is a board member of Hunger Fight, an organization that provides meals and books to local kids and seniors who face food insecurity. We are passionate about giving back, and a portion of every commission we earn is donated to Hunger Fight. Those donations have provided over 100,000 meals to hungry children in our communities. We also host food-packing events with our friends, family and clients each year. Other causes the Glynns support include pet rescues, Alzheimer’s and cancer research and Dreams Come True. Ben is

also the current chair of the St. John’s Council for the Northeast Association of Real Estate Agents.

FUTURE PLANS

The Glynns “have some big goals” in mind. “On the professional side, we want to continue to build up our team and to develop our business. Most importantly, we want to keep making our clients feel cared for. What is the most important thing still on your bucket list?

MICHELE STEWART

The Legends of Real Estate

I thoroughly enjoy real estate. However, with the money I make in real estate, I would love to take my whole family on a cruise. As I get older I believe I would want to be known as a caring, compas sionate, REALTOR®, mom, grandmom, who is always giving her time and money to make my family and custom ers happy to know me. So my “why” in real estate is to put on my bucket list more time with my family and celebrate on a cruise ship.

Have you ever had an experience where you were literally just lost for words? Well, this was that experience for me! I worked with Ms. Linda, and she is beautiful both inside and out. The communication was amazing, and she was always kind, o ering encouraging words. There were times when I wanted to just give up, but with her literally holding my hand and guiding me through everything, the experience became much easier. If you are a first-time homebuyer and think you can't buy a home, GO TO

BY LINDA. They will walk you through everything, respond to all messages, answer all questions, and most importantly, they FIGHT FOR YOU! I don't think you will find anyone better than them. I could go on and on about my experience. If you are shopping for a lender, call Mortgages By Linda!
