Jay Bytebier

I am Jay Bytebier. Graduated as industrail product designer, specialization Engineering and Shape design I am a very big sports fan. That’s the reason why I am a competitive mountain biker and road racer. The passion skipped on my studies in 2014 . Because you train in all weather conditions, day in day out, you perfectly experience what it does to a bike. I love to challenge my bike in all those conditions. WhiIe I was training there came a little voice in my head; ‘I want to design my own bike’. This desire became stronger and stronger. How more I designed things in the courses, how more I wanted to design. So I started to search for an education where I could use my creativity, learn designskills, material knowledge and design. So I did! It all starts with a dream, so I hope that one day I’ll make a new type of bike.

DIGITAL KITCHEN SCALE

NO MORE XTRA GRAMS

Task Make a new kitchen scale that would fit in the design language of Seymour Powell. The kitchen scale can also be made for children and people with disabilites. The engineering part can be conceptual. Research Prototyping Engineering Shape design Functionality Communication

Duration 6 weeks shape design 6 week engineering

Group Individually

Skills Foam modelling, arduino/electronics, 3D printing, injection molding

Project Shape design: focussing on the design language. Engineering: design a different style of scale so that kids and people with disabilities can understand how it works. Easily understood.

DESIGN A NEW DRINK BOTTLE AND CAGE FOR THE TREK TOP 3 ROAD MODELS AND LET IT FIT INTO THE DESIGN LANGUAGE

XXX BOTTLE AND CAGE Task Design a product for a company. The companyof my intrest is Trek Bicycle Coorporation. I wanted to design a new drink bottle and cage that fits into the design of three road bikes; the Domane, the Emonda and the Madone. Research Prototyping Engineering Shape design Functionality Communication Graphic

Duration 6 weeks shape design

This cage and bottle are so designed that the cyclist needs to pull out the bottle out of the cage. It is a click system that keeps the bottle in place.

Cage and bottle design 2; you need to fit the botte under the snap.It wil provide that the bottle won’t come lose. This is a test mechanisme, but if it will be used in further process, it will be so designed that you won’t see the snap. They will be covered.

3 This cage and bottle are so designed that the cyclist needs to pull out or to extend the bottle out of the cage. A click system keeps the bottle in place.

HOW DOES IT WORK? 1 1. Place the holder on the frame. Fix the holder on the bike with 2x M5 screws and an inbus number 3.

2 2. Open the drinkbus. Choose your type of sportsdrink.

3 3. The bottle can be used in 2 different ways. You can slide the bottle in the holder or you can click it. Let’s have a ride!

4

While riding you can drink your delicious sportsdrink by pulling out the cycling drink bottle as in step 2. Enjoy!

DESIGN A FIRE INSTALLATION THAT FITS INTO A WINTER FESTIVAL ORGANISED BY BOLWERK IN COURTRAI

‘‘

‘‘

PROJECT FIRE

PROJECT FIRE Task Feux d’hiver organised by Bolwerk VZW was searching for games on their winter fair. We had the school assigment to work with fire. So a nice fire game for children and their parents to have fun safety on the fair. Research Prototyping Engineering Shape design Functionality Communication

Duration 6 weeks engineering

Group In collaboration of Stijn Van Damme and Philippe Cox

Skills Fire, gaz ,electronics ,woodwork ,strenght ,construction

Project Because the product needed to stay on a winter festival we thought that it would be a good idea to make a kind of game for kids and their parents. The final game is a bibber spiral; 2 players need to go as fast as possible to the end point, if they touch the bar, the fire will go out and you have to start again. If you finish, the firework explosion will be your winners gift. You can see a movie at the end of the project.

HOW DOES IT WORK? 1

1. Put the end of the handle in the fire and touch the plate in the candle. If the ring at the end of the handle is on fire, you can play. Gogogo!

2 2. Try to win the game against your friend or competitor. If you touch the bar with your handle, the fire will go out and you need to start again. Repeat step 1.

3 3. If you are able to finish as the fastest and touch the metal plate at the end, you win and you’ll get a big fire explosion.Well done! Let’s try again. Winner

Task Shape design a product you would like to design Research Prototyping Engineering Shape design Functionality Communication Style

Duration 12 weeks

Group Individually

Skills Fast prototyping, Foam modelling, Injection molding, 3D CAD Surfacing, Plastics, 3D printing

Project The goal of the project is to create your own design style as designer. You have to redesign a product you really like or are interested in. Because I’m interested in sports,a bike light was one of thÊ logic things because safety is a big prioritiy.

CYCLING PROJECT

AS INSPIRATION I FREQUENTLY SKETCH AND DESIGN STUFF FOR MYSELF, SOME ARE DESIGNED FOR USE.

JB RACING TEAM JERSEY

Task For my own private mountainbike team, I need to design new cycling wear every year. I want to design nice simple and elegant cycling jerseys. Research Graphic design Creativity Communication

Duration 2 weeks graphic design

Group Individually

Skills Graphic design, Illustrator, cycling, trends,...

Project Designing cycling wear inspired by the design of Team Sky. Their design is very nice and not overloaded with sponsor, graphics,... It is a simple, nice, elegant jersey. In this way I have designed my new team jersey.

DESIGNS These are the best designs that I made out of 50 explorations to find the best one.

Designed by Jay Bytebier Produced by Doltcini

JB RACING LOGO

Task For my own private team i wanted a cool logo that represent myself. Research Graphic design Functionality

Duration 2 weeks graphic design

Group Individually

Skills Graphic design, Illustrator, cycling, trends,...

Project Design a nice logo that represent myself.

LOGO EXPLORATION Color panel

JB RACING is my own mountainbike team I started years ago and now I wanted a really nice logo who represents myself. An open minded person, out of the box thinking, liking to ride in the mountains, spreading my wings. You can see the final logo on the right page. It is more rounded than the other ones but it represents myself 100%
