Jarrico began covering virtual news for eight years and two years in Sims online when she launched the original TSO Enquirer in 2004.

As a reporter in Second life, Jarrico knows what stories sparked her interest the most and will make it top priority. In fact, she mentioned that most of her stories covered interviews with residents in various topics like her last week interview with Paramount Playhouse.

“I spoke with a real artist that showcases her artwork in Second Life. But people can also purchase her paintings in real world and the same goes for musicians I feature,” Jarrico included.

While reporting virtually, Lanai Jarrico explained that she has no real world experience working for a local newspaper but thinks the organization of an online source is similar in the fact that management, staff and news contributors can be from anywhere around the world and have good real world experience.

“Management, good work ethic, integrity and professionalism all keep me being the longest running news source in Second Life,” Jarrico replied.

Residents in Second Life are not always watching TV, most of them are active and can find news through other sources depending on their preferences. She responded that many also like to use blogs or social network and radio and machinima videos.

Another close friend of Jarrico and virtual sister Persia Bravin, who is CEO of BOSL radio talked about how

there is no defining person who listens to the radio.

“We aim to cater for SL residents in general and

with the fashion crowd who want to hear news of fashion events and hear their favorite designers in voice.

I asked Bravin what do people look for in Second Life and she answered.

“In general, I think most people look for fun, an escape from their real life and the chance to talk with people from across the globe,” Bravin said.

Journalism is changing social media tremendously. Blogging has played a special role for anyone to report news or share information. Jarrico touched on professional journalism being flooded by freelance writers and bloggers. She discussed that journalism can be taken as a fact online.

“My experiences in Second Life inspired me to go to school for the degrees I need in communication, and Technology so that it will give me real world standing and more options in the field of media.” Jarrico stated.

She is a hard worker, Lanai Jarrico, CEO president of the Second Life Enquirer and, an outstanding virtual journalist has become an advocate for her Second Life Community.

“The demand for virtual world media and the virtual world itself keeps me inspired and motivated to continue to what I do,” Jarrico said.
