Interpretive Portraits by Jaye Harris
RED LIPS I have alternately called this portrait bald lips and red lips. It didn't call out one way or the other really. It still may change. This piece was a response to all the photos that dominate web pages. I painted this to use on the web originally. This is watercolor on 1 40gm paper.
WAITING FOR TROPHIES
Duncan is a very competitive gymnast. This portrait was one of a number of family pieces for a card and a poem.
TUXEDO Jack is one handsome fellow. I have any number of images from the dances and choral performances at his school. I try to keep these in mind and let the lines speak on their own. The watercolor and ink rendering is I hope representative of the light hand I gave this portrait. I used 1 40gm paper here.
BUSINESS The business suit and smile in this image were defining for me. I expect the image conveys that posture for you. I created this piece to add to a family card. I was creating a a family card for a light hearted poem I wrote about us. I used ink and watercolor on 1 40gm Shumacher paper.
BLINK
This image is a response to Ted Kim's incredible illustrations. I enjoyed drawing and painting the variety of light planes. I like this technique and will continue to explore it in the future. Ink and watercolor on cold press illustration board.
AFTERNOON This was one of the images I created for the the poem. I tried to show you the present me. A little tired around the eyes. Ink and watercolor rendering on 1 40gm paper.
MINUTES
I showed this image in a previous book. I created this while sitting in the car line for 20 minutes. Do you ever get the urgent need to paint and then stand back and watch? This painted itself while I watched . I used watercolor on a piece of 1 40gm paper.
