DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION

I believe anything worth doing is worth doing thoroughly. God is in the details and I refuse to ignore even the smallest of them. My process reflects that. Complex and detail-oriented, what I create holds substance because of the layers of research and conceptual ideation it’s developed through.

Behind every process is a story of how it was created. Mine has always started simply: a little doodle and copious amounts of coffee.

Sometimes, my sketches are more focused on words than imagery. Word maps are useful in the first steps of a project, but testing the appearance of a word is also crucial.

Sketches and phrases often lead into hours of research. It’s hard to make a great (or even functional) design for a situation you know nothing about, so I strive to understand all aspects of the given opportunity.

These stages all give way to the development of concepts. I test every angle, various materials are experimented with, and all visual elements are reworked until one idea stands alone.

Finalization comes from a concept whose details have been groomed alongside feedback given from peers. The work is then altered according to the suggestions given and my own updates.

The piece is then reworked until it’s functional and finalized. Details are then analyzed and fine-tuned until a scrawled sketch is turned into something great.

Whatever the end result of my process, I strive to “keep moving forward.” Continually learning and improving, I will always push to “go do great things.”
