Padre Dam Municipal Water District Water Quality Report In 2018, Padre Dam Municipal Water District’s drinking water met or surpassed every public health requirement set by the State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water (State Board) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the USEPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791, or online at: http://water.epa.gov/ drink/standards/hascience.cfm. Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immune-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, persons with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. The USEPA and Centers
for Disease Controlidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available online at: http://water.epa.gov/drink/standards/hascience.cfm Your Water Quality in 2018 - Padre Dam is proud to report that our water system meets all USEPA and California Drinking Water Health Standards. This report is a snapshot of last year’s water quality (2018). Included are details about where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to State and Federal standards. Water Sources Padre Dam imports 100 percent of its potable water supply from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan) and the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA). The water is treated at Metropolitan’s Skinner Treatment Plant near Temecula, the SDCWA’s Twin Oaks Valley Treatment Plant in San Marcos, Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant and Helix Water District’s Levy Treatment Plant in Lakeside. Metropolitan, SDCWA, Helix and Padre Dam coordinate annually to assess water quality levels and produce this Water Quality Report.
The tap water you received from Padre Dam in 2018 was blended water from the Colorado River System, the California State Water Project, ocean water from the desalination plant and local watersheds within San Diego County. Source Water Assessment Metropolitan assessed the vulnerability of its imported water in 2015 for the Colorado River and 2016 for the State Water Project. These source waters are both exposed to storm water runoff, recreational activities, wastewater discharges, wildlife, fires and other watershed-related factors that could affect water quality. Treatment to remove specific contaminants can be more expensive than measures to protect water at the source, which is why Metropolitan and other water agencies invest resources to support improved watershed protection programs. For a copy of these assessments, contact Metropolitan at 213-217-5696. Helix Water District assessed Lake Jennings in March 2016. This assessment found the lake’s water quality to be vulnerable to wastewater, recreation, development, equestrian properties and pesticide/herbicide use. Contact Helix Water District at 619-667-6248 for more information on their assessment.

Keller Williams Realty San Diego East Foothills in El Cajon, one of the largest residential real estate brokerages in San Diego County, has named Eric Tai as team leader. The announcement was made by Joe Garzanelli, broker, Keller Williams Realty San Diego East Foothills. As team leader and a member of the brokerage’s leadership team, Tai will oversee continued growth and expansion of the brokerage through recruiting real estate talent and retention, along with coaching, training and teambuilding that is designed to achieve growth initiative standards and market center goals. “Keller Williams has grown with a focus on cultivating an agentcentric, education based and technology driven culture that rewards agents as stakeholders,” said Tai,
“and I plan to continue that track record of success.” Tai, who was born in Hong Kong with British citizenship and grew up in Sacramento as a naturalized U.S. citizen, has a career background as a loan consultant, lending advisor and mortgage banker. He has previously helped a number of KW agents with financing transactions on behalf of their clients. Tai can be reached at 619-8829776 or at EricTai@kw.com. “Tai succeeds Leslie Ratliff as the brokerage’s team leader. Ratliff will continue with the brokerage in other capacities,” Garzanelli said. Four GCCCD Students Chosen as Ambassadors for Statewide Community College Wellness Program El Cajon – July 30 Four students from Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges are among 20 from community colleges across the state selected for the California Community Colleges Student Wellness Ambassador Program for the 2019-2020 academic school year. Helena Ayersman and Jordan Arechiga from Grossmont College and Hiba Jbouri and Warren Preston from Cuyamaca College will be heading next month to Sacramento for training on mental health and wellness issues to serve as advocates and to provide peer outreach at their colleges. They were selected from about 250 applicants. The function of the ambassadors is to connect students with resources and support, raise mental health awareness
and help reduce the stigma. Under the guidance of a faculty adviser on campus, the ambassadors will also plan health and wellness events or activities. In addition to two days of training in Sacramento and online training throughout the year, the student ambassadors will receive a $1,000 stipend for their service. “I am so excited to have been chosen,” said Ayersman, who is pursuing a degree in child development. She graduated in the spring with a degree in sociology and was set to transfer to a university out of state, but upon learning she had been selected as a student wellness ambassador, she decided to stay at Grossmont and seek another associate degree. “This student ambas-
sador position will open more doors for me in the future,” she said. “It will be a great learning experience.” The California Community Colleges Student Wellness Ambassador Program is a component of the California Community Colleges Health & Wellness program launched in 2011 as one of several prevention and early intervention initiatives funded by the voterapproved Proposition 63, the Mental Health Services Act. The newest crop of student ambassadors represent the second cohort of students participating in the project. Della Elliott, Marketing/Communications for GrossmontCuyamaca Community College District
MTS Upcoming Fare Changes For the first time in nearly a decade, MTS will have a fare change, effective September 1, 2019. As operational costs increased 25% over the past ten years, expenses exceeded revenues by almost $10 million. It’s never an easy decision, but to balance the budget, MTS leadership determined changes to the current fare structure were a better alternative to reducing service (this was shaped in part by a survey of more than
4,000 riders, 65% of whom indicated they preferred higher fares over reduced service). Some changes include: New reduced $23 Youth Monthly Pass (down from $36): Available for ages 6 - 18. The Senior, Disabled, Medicare (SDM) Monthly Pass will also be $23 (combined with Youth Pass price, up from $18). The senior eligibility rate will go up to 65+. People who were born on or before September 1, 1959 will still be eligible
for the reduced senior fare. New reduced fare (Youth and SDM) $3 Day Pass. Adult Day Pass will increase from $5 to $6. Elimination of multi-day passes. Most bus one-way fares will be $2.50 for Adults and Youth ($1.25 for SDM one-way fares). Elimination of one-way transfers between Trolley lines. To view all changes, click HERE.
