Course Content Besides acquiring a strong foundation of the English language, a child also learns the basic skills such as writing, number recognition, reading, as well as craftwork. Learning Methods Teaching is performed through various subjects including English, Number work and Topic, through which the children extend and enrich their oral and written vocabulary, and learn the basic motor, linguistic, numeral, personal and social skills. Parents are advised about the topics their children are learning through Topic and Subject Information Sheets that help reinforce the learning process at home. Field trips are organized around the topics with an emphasis on local culture while events and functions are all geared towards ensuring that children reap the most rewards educationally through them, enjoying themselves simultaneously. Facilities The Infant Section children have their own shaded playgrounds which is equipped The children are encouraged to share and care with their classmates, thus developing their social awareness, which in turn will help them to become good citizens of the future. RECEPTION STAGE (AGES 4 TO 5) Course Outlook The emphasis is on activity based learning. The topics are at a most sophisticated level. Course Content Enhancement of reading, writing and numerical skills. Children are encouraged to write their own simple sentences and formal reading is introduced. As the children enter the Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum, the Literary and Numeracy sessions form part of the daily routine. Formal teaching of the Arabic language is also introduced on a daily basis. Please Note It is important to note that young children need much play time and rest at home. However, it is necessary to practice what they have learnt at school for about one hour, two or three times a week, since young children need constant practice to ensure a strong foundation of learning. This practice will also strengthen the educational bond between parent and child through quality revision time. Parents are considered to be partners with the school in their child’s education and are welcome to visit the school on a regular basis for Parent-Teacher meetings to discuss the progress of the child. The Coordinators and Head Teachers are also available by appointment to discuss any concern that parents may have about their child. 13 11 14

At NAKIS students are carefully sensitized to environmental and academic concerns as the school understands the contemporary challenges and is committed to fulfilling collective responsibilities towards children. We believe that assessment is an essential component of the learning process. The school will adhere to the realization of instrumental objectives and attainment targets prescribed by the Cambridge curriculum in the respective subject at each stage, and make continuous assessment, both formative and summative. The periodic / monthly tests and end-of-term examinations will be conducted, and the results will be intimated to the parents. Promotion to the higher grade will be based on systematic assessment and those students who do not achieve the expected attainment targets will have to repeat the grade. The final grade of the student is based upon 4 assessments namely Class Test 1 (carrying a weightage of 15%), Midyear exams (carrying a weightage of 30%) Class Test 2 (carrying a weightage of 15%)and Annual Examination (carrying a weightage of 40%). Assessments include written and oral tests such as Dictation in English, Arabic, French, Mental Maths, practical tests in ICT, projects, homework, quizzes and research work. All of this is recorded in the CCA (Continuous Class Assessment). Thus, Internal Assessments (end of the Term examination + CCA for the specific Term) for a student are conducted 4 times in an academic year at NAKIS.
