Orientation needed before checking-out boat Aug. 13 & 27 These one-hour orientation classes are required in order to checkout motor-driven ORC boats. Advance class registration required. Cost is $5. Before attending class, boater must take and pass a free on-line boater safety course at www.boatus.org. Call the Air Base ORC after testing to schedule an orientation class.

The Air Base ORC offers an indoor and mobile climbing wall. The indoor wall is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Climbers need to weigh a minimum of 50 lbs. in order to climb on the auto-belay wall. Cost is $6 for first-time users; $5 for every subsequent climbing session. The mobile climbing wall is available by reservation for large events or parties on and off base. Price varies, depending on dates/ times needed and number of climbers. Stop by or call for more details.

Lake Jocassee Hiking & Kayaking - Aug. 3-4. Jocassee Gorge, S.C. We will travel through some of the most beautiful and untouched land found in the state. This is an in-and-out of the water activity. It’s a physical (and thrilling!) day and therefore limited strictly to the young at heart. Cost: $150 pp (regular price, $250). Price includes lodging based on double occupancy and breakfast. Departs AB ORC on Aug. 3 at 7 a.m., returning around 8 p.m. the next day. Kayak Folly River - Aug. 4. Folly Beach, S.C. Have fun in the sun during this Folly kayaking trip! Cost: $30pp (regular price, $50pp). Price includes transportation, kayak rentals with gear/PFD, tour and instruction. Departs the Air Base Outdoor Recreation Center. Departure and return times TBA. Tandem Skydiving - Aug. 10. Walterboro, S.C. Jump out of a perfectly good airplane because your mother told you not to! Must be at least 18 years old and not weigh more than 220lbs. Cost: $120pp (list price $225pp). Price includes transportation, instruction, all gear and tandem skydive. Departs from The Dive on the Weapons Station at 7 a.m., returning around 3:15 p.m. Boat orientation classes – Aug. 13 & 27. Air Base ORC. A boat orientation class at the ORC is required to check-out any motor-driven boat in the their inventory. Cost: $5. Prior to scheduling & attending a class, participants must take the on-line Boaters Safety Course at www.boatus.org and bring proof of completion. Class starts at 4 p.m. Pre-registration is required for all boat orientation classes. Green River Kayaking - Aug. 17. Saluda, S.C. Come explore the great outdoors while kayaking down the Saluda River. You’ll learn about different kinds of plants that survive only in this area. Also along the way, we will stop to have some fun swinging from trees into the river and explore more of the river on Class II rapids. Cost: $40pp (regular price, $60pp). Price includes transportation, rentals, admission and guide. Departs The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station at 7 a.m., returning around 10 p.m. Cookies & Canvas Painting Class - Aug. 17. AB ORC. Geared to ages 10 and up. This painting class includes all instruction, materials and cookies! This two-hour session starts at 5 p.m. Cost: $30pp (regular price, $60). Florida Overnight Paddleboarding - Aug. 17-18. Ichetucknee Springs State Park, Fla. Join us as we explore the Ichetucknee Springs State Park by paddleboard! We will paddle down the springs, hike the state park trails and snorkel the springs blue hole in the state park. The group will spend the night at the Kings Bay Naval Base in Georgia. Cost: $100pp (regular price, $150). Price includes transportation, paddleboard gear with instructor and guide, snorkel gear, and lodging. Departs The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station at 6 a.m.; returning at approximately 4 p.m. the next day. Jet ski safari trips – Aug. 18. Isle of Palms, S.C. Get ready for a wild ride on the Inter-coastal Waterway and into the Barrier Islands off Charleston. This high-speed adventure is a must for adrenaline junkies. The $50pp (regular price $100) cost includes transportation, jet ski rental and safari. Two departure locations: the Air Base ORC trips departs the ORC at 8 a.m., and returns at approximately 12 p.m. The Liberty trip leaves The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station at 9:30 a.m., returning around 2 p.m. Charleston river cruise – Aug. 21. Charleston Harbor. Join us on a river cruise on the beautiful Ashley River. The $20pp cost includes the cruise and a very entertaining history lesson of local Charleston landmarks. Patrons can bring food and drinks. Be sure to pack sunscreen! Departure from Air Base ORC at 4 p.m., returning around 7:30 p.m. Sea Shell Wreaths – Aug. 22. AB ORC. We live by the seashore, so let’s make the most of it! Bring your own or use our shells to create a one of a kind wreath. Cost: $20pp. This two-hour class starts at 6 p.m. Capers Island Trip – Aug. 24. Capers Island, S.C. Join us on this fun trip to beautiful capers island. Cost: $30pp (regular price, $40pp). Price includes transportation, shell finding gear and a boat ride. Leaves from the Air Base. Departure & return times TBA. Congaree River tubing – Aug. 24. Columbia, S.C. Take a break from the rat race and go tubing down parts of the Congaree River. The $20pp ($30 regular price) cost includes transportation and tube rentals. At a leisurely pace, we will tour Sullivan's Island and learn about the Civil War battles that took place on the island and Edgar Allen Poe’s connection to the area and war. Cost: $20 (regular price, $40pp). Price includes transportation, bike rentals with helmet and tour guide. Depart time from The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station is TBA. Shark Tooth and Kayaking Adventure – Aug. 25. Sullivan's Island, S.C. This fun trip gives you the opportunity to do two extremely fun things on the same trip - kayaking and fossil hunting. SMART Girls host celebration

JB Charleston’s SMART Girls group is hosting a celebration gathering Sept. 27, 6:30-10:30 p.m. at the Air Base youth center. As part of the Boys and Girls Club of America, SMART Girls is a program for ages 10-17 that is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable young girls to develop to their full potential. This event is open to
