Improve your financial strength in the new year With the New Year comes a fresh start. One of the best places to start is by making solid financial resolutions. Aside from health and fitness resolutions, financial resolutions are the next most popular. • Save more, spend less: Easier said than done, right? Start by tracking your expenses to get an accurate answer to that age old question we have all at one point or another asked ourselves, Where does my money go? • Start saving for retirement. Will Social Security be around when you are 67? Don't gamble with your future, start making it a habit to save 10% of your pay. Build an emergency fund and then concentrate on a retirement account. Contributing to your Thrift Savings Plan is a great way to start! • Set financial goals and discuss them with your significant other. Many couples don't talk about money until there is "an issue." If you establish goals and stick to them you are more likely to reach your goals and avoid bickering about money like many couples do. • Seek help from a financial counselor. Both the Airman and Family Readiness Center and Fleet and Family Support Center have trained professionals that can help you establish and reach your goals. Both centers offer a variety of classes and programs to fit your needs as well as individual appointments. Call on us - we are here to support you!
