Adventure Events

Tandem Skydiving: April 7 & 14 . Walterboro, S.C. Jump out of a plane because your mother told you not to! The $100 price (reg. price $174) includes transportation, tandem sky dive from 10,500 feet and instruction. Must be at least 18 years old and weigh absolutely no more than 220 lbs. The April 7 trip departs from the Air Base ORC at 7:15 a.m., returning at approximately 6 p.m. The April 14 trip leaves the Bowman Center on the Weapons Station at 7:15 a.m., and returns around 6 p.m. All meals at your own cost. Biltmore Festival of Flowers: April 14. Asheville, N.C. Join the Air Base ORC on a trip to beautiful Biltmore Estates for the annual Festival of Flowers. This palatial mansion is the largest private residence in America, sitting on 8,000 acres of manicured lawn and landscape. Visually stunning. The price (TBA) includes transportation, admission to the grounds, guided tour and the winery. Departure time from the ORC is 7 a.m., returning around 8 p.m. Velocity Air Sports: April 20. North Charleston. We think this is the best indoor trampoline center around, plus it has a large Ninja Warrior course. The $10 price (reg. price $30)includes transportation, admission and jumping socks. Departs the Bowman quarterdeck at 8 p.m., and returns around 11:30 p.m. Congaree Hiking: April 21 – Columbia, S.C. Come with us and get out into the great outdoors with a boardwalk hike upstate in Columbia. This hike will be approximately two miles round trip. Next, we’ll spend some time hiking at the Riverfront Park and see the beauty South Carolina’s capital city holds! Cost is just $10. Trip departs the Bowman Center on the Weapons Station at 8 a.m., and returns at approximately 8 p.m. Asheville Zip and Hike: April 21-22. Asheville, N.C. One the first day, we’ll experience the thrill of the longest zipline east of the Mississippi River, with speeds of up to 65 mph while you zip through the Appalachian Mountains. The following day, the group will be going to Pisgah National Forest for some hiking. Cost is $120 and includes hotel (double occupancy) transportation, zipline and entrance into Pisgah National Forest. This exciting excursion departs the Air Base ORC at 8 a.m., and returns the following day at approximately 8 p.m. Cape Romain Lighthouse Tour - April 22. Cape Romain, S.C. Cape Romain offers a tour of the lighthouse island only four times a year! The 1827 lighthouse is the oldest of its kind in the U.S. still standing. With a six-mile boat ride out to the Island, you’ll learn the historical facts of the Island along with exploring it! The $25 price (reg. price $45) includes transportation, boat ride/tour, lighthouse tour, admission and snacks. Departs the Weapons Station Bowman quarterdeck and the Air Base ORC at 8 a.m., returning around 6 p.m. Discover Historic Charleston: April 22. Downtown Charleston. Haven't you always wanted to learn more about the great city we live in? This bike tour takes you throughout beautiful, historic downtown Charleston. Departs the Air Base ORC at 8 a.m., returning at approximately 3 p.m. Cost: $10 (reg. price - $30). Crystal River Tubing Overnight: April 27-29. Crystal River, Fla. - Join the Air Base ORC on a trip south to beautiful Crystal River, Fla. We will be tubing and hiking in Rainbow Springs State Park. The $189 price (reg. price: $300) includes transportation, lodging and equipment rental. All food is at patron’s own cost. Trip is based on double occupancy. Trip departs the Weapons Station Bowman Center quarterdeck at 5 p.m., returning on Sunday around 8 p.m. Jet Ski Safari: April 29. Isle of Palms, S.C. Join the Air Base ORC on a ride up the Intercostal Waterway and into the Barrier Islands off Charleston. This scenic and sometimes high speed adventure is a must, especially for newcomers to the Lowcountry. Cost, departure and return TBA.

Intramural league starts next month Intramural golf is a great opportunity to get out of the office and enhance the camaraderie and morale among your squadron or unit while playing golf at the beautiful courses of Joint Base Charleston. Intramural golf is eligible to active duty, Reservists and DoD civilians of the base. The season is split into two seasons, spring and fall, with an Air Base and Weapons Station branch respectively. The spring season begins each year in April and the fall season begins in September. The nine-hole match play format alternates between two-player captain's choice and best ball. The league results are accumulative totals between the spring and fall seasons with playoffs occurring late October. Please download and complete the unit letter on intent found at www.JBCharlestongolf.com/leagues and email it to: jbcharlestongolf@gmail.com. The entry deadline for the spring season is 10 a.m., on April 5.

A sport that’s sweeping the nation, FootGolf combines the elements of soccer and golf to create a fun-filled game for all ages. Using traditional golf rules and etiquette, a soccer ball replaces the golf ball and your feet are used instead of clubs. With no prior experience needed, a game of FootGolf can be enjoyed by the entire family. Soccer balls are available should you need them or you may bring your own ball and waive the $4 ball rental fee. Core program enriches, improves quality of life One of the core programs of Military and Family Readiness is Personal and Work Life (P&WL). P&WL services are designed to enrich and improve the quality of individual and family life by providing the knowledge and skills needed for effective living. Some of the core components that we provide information or skills in are parenting, Key Spouse, personal growth and development, and much more. Bringing awareness to our communities is the driving force behind P&WL. Partnering with our local agencies provides us a broad range of information and referral services as well as a plethora of education. Some of the awareness initiatives for the next quarter are: March, National Sleep Awareness Month; April, Month of the Military Child and Autism Awareness; May: Military Spouse Appreciation Month. This is a free event and pre-registration is not needed. Along with the hunt there will be games and face painting.
