We play Big Bucks Bingo every Monday and Wednesday! Both nights have combined nightly payouts of at least $1,600 not including two progressive jackpots of at least $1,000 if you win before the designated winning number. Whitewater rafting, ropes course adventure

May 13 This is two adventures rolled into one! Travel with the Air Base Outdoor Recreation Center to the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, N.C., and experience the thrill of rafting gone wild, but in a safe, controlled environment. Also, you will have the opportunity to tackle the high ropes course. Youth must be age 11 or more to complete the ropes course. All climbers must weigh at least 45 lbs., and not more than 265 lbs. Cost for the trip is $50 per person. Advance reservations required. Call or stop by for more information.

Base pools open May 27

The Air Base and Weapons Station pools open for recreational swimming May 27. Individual and family passes are available for purchase. Entrance is free for all E1-E4 Airmen and Sailors. Check with each facility for PT and adult lap swim times.

Boaters must attend class before renting

These one-hour orientation classes on May 2 and May 23 are required in order to checkout motor-driven ORC boats. Advance class registration required. Cost is $5. Before attending class, boater must take and pass a free on-line boater safety course at www.boatus.org. Call the Air Base ORC after testing to schedule an orientation class.

Family Fun Night May 26

All JB Charleston families are invited to kick off the Memorial Day weekend at the Weapons Station Youth Center for a family fun night. This free event gets underway at 4:30 p.m., and includes family-friendly games, challenges and activities such as a “Singing Bee” and Memorial Day-themed “Jeopardy.” We will be sure to make a huge, fresh batch of popcorn and have the photo booth fully stocked with props. Fathers Survival Guide Friday, June 16 - 4 p.m. Weapons Station Youth Center Some dads are just clueless about camping, but want to enjoy this bonding experience with their kids. This free, two-hour session will show fathers and their youth how to do a variety of outdoor tasks, such as pitch a tent, start a camp fire without matches, how to make questionable water drinkable and plants to avoid. We’ll also demonstrate how to stay warm and dry, tie useful knots, how to store your food, and what to pack and what to leave at home. Just for the fun of it, there will be a tent pitching contest for dads at 4:30 p.m. If interested in the contest, please register by June 12. Call (843) 794-7809 for more info.

Youth “Sports Tour” sampler passes, hits, scores Saturday, May 13, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Weapons Station This is a fantastic opportunity for youth ages 4-18 to experience a sport that they have wanted to try or were unsure if they would enjoy it. Sports for ages 5 and up include basketball, baseball, soccer, martial arts, flag football and other recreational games. Kids 4 and under can get hands-on experience with many of the sports in the Start Smart Arena, separate from the older youth. All participants must be in athletic gear (closed-toe sneakers, gym shorts, T-shirt, etc.). Although lunch and water will be provided, everyone is encouraged to bring snacks and a water bottle. Parents are always welcome to watch. Volunteers are needed throughout the day to help with instruction and organization. This is a free event for all
