Outdoor Rec Center Disney discount ends soon The Air Base Outdoor Recreation Center now has specially-discounted, four-day Park Hopper passes, that include the Water Park, for the astounding price of only $194.50 each! This is nearly a $200 savings over the gate price. Sales are limited to six passes per eligible person or spouse (but, not both) and must be purchased at the same time. The ORC has only a limited number of these passes on hand at any one time, so plan ahead and purchase them at least four weeks in advance of going to Orlando. Eligibility to purchase is limited and some restrictions apply. Call or stop by for more details.
Boat orientation class necessity before using power boats
These one-hour orientation classes on Nov. 8 and Nov. 22 are required in order to checkout motor-driven ORC boats. Advance class registration required. Cost is $5. Participants need only attend one of the sessions. Before attending class, boater must take a free online boater safety course at www.boatus.org and pass with a minimum score of 80%. Call the Air Base ORC after testing to schedule an orientation class.

Horseback ride on Seabrook Island
Explore on horseback Nov. 12 one of South Carolina’s most majestic islands. Experience miles of scenic woodlands, marshes and tidal creeks. It’s all happening at the zoo
Nov. 20 We’ll start out a day observing nature with a walk in Sesquicentennial State Park to help get us in the mood for a wonderful visit to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia. This is a world-class facility with more than 2,000 animals on exhibit, along with bird and giraffe feeding areas, an aquarium and several other great surprise areas. Cost is $30 per person, which includes transportation, a light breakfast, along with admissions to the zoo, botanical gardens and state park. Reservations required.
Night of ice skating, laughter
Nov. 18 Latch on to a couple friends, classmates or family members and join us for a fun night of ice skating. We’ll all have a great time falling down, laughing, then getting up and doing it all over again at the Carolina Ice Palace. Cost is $15. Youth coaches needed
JB Charleston youth ages 7-14 who are Youth Programs’ members are invited to the Air Base Youth Center every Tuesday in November for free tennis lessons. Spaces are limited and current immunizations are required for all participants. Call to register or for additional information.
Youth coaches are needed at the Air Base and Weapons Station for several different sports. They are searching for coaches ages 18 and up for cheerleading, basketball, baseball and soccer. The age range for the youth is 4-12 years old. Active duty, retirees, DoD civilians, contractors and family members may apply. All coaches must complete a background investigation before contact of any type with a youth or team. If interested in applying, call or stop by either JB Charleston Youth Center.
Kids Night playing in clay Nov. 18, 7-10 p.m. November’s Kids Night Out event at the Air Base Youth Center will be a trip to Palmetto Clayground for a night of creative fun for ages 5-12. The cost is $15 per youth and registration must be completed no later than Nov. 11. Spaces are limited so don’t delay in signing up.

Winter camp sign-ups begin Registration is now underway for this year’s winter break camp at the Air Base and Weapons Station youth centers. These programs are open to school age youth ages 5 (in kindergarten) through 12. The camps run Dec. 19 through Dec. 30. Plenty of exciting activities are planned including field trips, arts & crafts, games and a lot more. Fees to attend are based on total family income. Nov. 29 November is Military Family Appreciation Month and we are celebrating with an ice cream social. Make a breakfast date with Santa
Saturday, Dec. 10 All children in the JB Charleston community are invited to share breakfast with Santa from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Air Base Youth Center. Parents are asked to call ahead to get a seating time for their children no later than Dec. 8. Seating times are 9, 9:45 and 10:15 a.m. Be sure to bring your camera for photos with Santa and a copy of your Christmas “wish list.” The Reading Corner and crafts are provided by the Air Base Library.
