Conquer spouse job-search challenges As a military spouse, finding employment can be challenging to say the least. Frequent PCS moves, deployments, childcare, or lack of immediate family support can certainly hinder job searching and the ability to network. There are three things a military spouse can do to prepare to advance a career. 1. Update your resume with all relevant and new sills and accomplishments. This includes updating your LinkedIn profile. Don’t forget to list your relevant volunteer positions, which translate to work skills! 2. Go back to school. There’s MyCAA and other military spouse scholarships available to help offset tuition costs. You can receive comprehensive counseling services at no cost by visiting www.Military OneSource for information on MyCAA, Spouse Employment and Career Opportunities, spouse preference, and many other topics regarding employment and education. 3. Network! Use social medial to join area specific Facebook groups and LinkedIn groups, and then start asking questions. Connect with military spouses that you’ve networked with on LinkedIn. Do you have a business or company in mind that you would like to work for? Follow that company on social media to determine their hiring practices and potential openings. Spouses of any branch of service, including the

Reserve and Guard components, regardless of activation status, are eligible to receive employment and education assistance at the Airman & Family Readiness Center on the Air Base or on the Weapons Station Fleet & Family Support Center. Let our centers be your first stop to networking! For more information call (843) 963-8883.
