Ready to ship out...

Young family members offered glimpse of how parents get ready to deploy It’s tough for our children to grasp what deployment is about other than the fact that it means the parent is leaving for sometimes an undetermined period. The Air Base youth center and the Airman and Family Readiness Center are co-hosting a mock deployment line to help our kids understand what we go through before we “ship out.” The event is Nov. 3, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., for youth ages 5-18. A specific location will be announced later, which will determined by the number of participants. Priority will be given to the families with a member currently deployed or about to be deployed. Sign-up deadline is Oct. 19 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. Call the center at (843) 963-4406 to register or for more details.

Base youth can earn congressional awards Young Americans ages 13½ to 23 are invited to challenge themselves to set, plan and achieve goals in four program areas: • Volunteer/public service • Personal development • Physical Fitness • Expedition/exploration activities.
