Stone Mountain hiking/ Georgia Aquarium Oct. 26-27 First day of this adventure you will hike Stone Mountain and go to Grist Mills. On Sunday, you will be exploring the amazing, world famous Georgia Aquarium! Cost is $135pp, which includes transportation, hotel based on double occupancy and aquarium admission. Paid reservations needed to take this trip. Call for more details.

Air Boat Ride & Brookgreen Gardens Oct. 26 Join the Air Base Outdoor Recreation Center on an exciting air boat ride, taking in the great outdoor of Waccamaw. After that, we will explore Brookgreen Gardens a unique melding of art, nature and history that has been designated a National Historic Landmark. The $45pp cost includes transportation, air boat ride and gardens admission. Advance sign-up required. If more information is needed, call (843) 963-1732.

Orientation needed before checking-out boat Oct. 8 & 22 These one-hour orientation classes are required in order to checkout motor-driven ORC boats. Advance class registration required. Cost is $5. Before attending class, boater must take and pass a free on-line boater safety course at www.boatus.org. Call the Air Base ORC after testing to schedule an orientation class.

Shrimping trips - Oct. 1, 2, 15, 16 & 17. North Charleston. Calling all shrimp lovers! The Air Base Outdoor Recreation staff is ready to take you out on the water to teach you how to cast a net and become the king or queen of DIY shrimping. Cost: $30 per person. The staff will provide all of the necessary gear to haul in the catch. You provide the cocktail sauce. Trip leaves from the W.O. Thomas Jr. Boat Landing. Advance reservations are needed. Please note everyone must have a saltwater license to participate. Grandfather Mountain Camping - Oct. 4-6. Linville, N.C. Join us for a hike up Grandfather Mountain for some amazing vistas, where the 5,946-foot peak is the highest on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Cost: $80. Price includes: transportation, admission, camping gear, two meals and hiking guide. Departs from The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station at 6 a.m., returning around 10 p.m., Sunday. Birds of Prey - Oct. 5. Awendaw, S.C. Come along with us as we take a short ride to the Avian Conservation Center & Center for Birds of Prey to experience the mysterious life of owls. During the visit, guests will get a guided owl demonstration, along with the opportunity to view the many other exhibits of the center. Cost: $20 per person. Departs The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station at 9:15 a.m., returning at approximately 3 p.m. USA Rafting/Hiking - Oct. 11-13. Erwin, Tenn. Spend the weekend riding the torrential rapids of the Nolichucky Gorge and hiking the Appalachian Trail. We will be sleeping in cabins 30 feet from the rushing river one night and on the riverside with your rafts the next! Cost: $120 per person. All your gear, transportation, guides, four delicious meals and all activities included. Departs The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station at 5 p.m.; returning the next day at approximately 11 p.m. NFL Jaguars vs. Saints - Oct. 13. Jacksonville, Fla. Don’t put off signing up for this trip to TIIA Bank Field in Jacksonville to experience NFL action live as the Jaguars take on Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. The $125 per person cost includes transportation and one admission ticket. Trip leaves the Air Base Outdoor Recreation Center. Call for times. Escape in 60 - Oct. 18. Charleston. Come join the LIBERTY/SAI staff as we work together to escape a prison room in just 60 minutes! If you’re an escape artist, maybe you’ll get us out in less time. Come find out! We will walk, talk and taste our way through historic Charleston during this exciting culinary tour. This 2½ hour tour will immerse you in the history and culture of the Lowcountry. Participants will discover how our unique cuisine has evolved over the past 300+ years while sampling delicious specialties from local eateries, markets, bakeries, restaurants and culinary landmarks. Jui Jitsu classes underway Youth classes are now underway at the Air Base for Jiu Jitsu. This is a basic, fundamental mixed martial arts class that teaches discipline and helps build confidence. All sessions are taught by a rated instructor. These are co-ed classes open to ages 7 and up. Sessions are conducted Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Cost is $60 a month per child. All youth must have a sports physical and immunization record with a current flu shot on file before starting classes. Call (843) 963-5684 for more information.

Hip Hop sessions begin These are super fun classes that will get your youth up and moving! Held Tuesdays at the Air Base youth center, classes are co-ed, one hour in length and open to ages 5 and up. Base youth can earn congressional awards

Young Americans ages 13½ to 23 are invited to challenge themselves to set, plan and achieve goals in four program areas: • Volunteer/public service • Personal development • Physical Fitness • Expedition/exploration activities. Participants will be recognized with bronze and silver medals at local, city or state ceremonies.
