How to develop effective 3D models for architecture, structure and MEP? Well the concept of developing 3D models for executing construction projects came into the picture with the adoption of CAD technology by AEC professionals a few decades back. Prior to CAD, they used to develop dummy models which were only used for showing a design to AEC professionals and building owners for the building in making. No concrete information used to be incorporated in these models and there was absolutely no chance for implementing modifications on them. So as CAD entered AEC industry design and construction professionals began to generate digital models for representing architecture, structure and MEP design CAD models which used to be generated with CAD software also had their own limitations. Evolution of CAD was followed by the emergence of Building Information Modeling which broke all the barriers in terms of streamlining construction methods. Revit which is effective BIM software is now used by design and construction professionals for developing the design of different building disciplines. The software manufacturing company that is accountable for developing Revit for empowering design and construction professionals has come up with different Revit disciplines. These include Revit architecture, Revit structure and Revit MEP which are specifically utilized by AEC professionals for design development of respective disciplines. Correct information lies at the center of designing effective and information rich models. And for obtaining accurate information coordination and collaboration of design and construction professionals is necessary. That means the design development team can develop effective 3D models only after receiving effective inputs from architects, engineers, contractors and building owners etc. So once effective inputs are acquired by the design development teams from all these potential building stakeholders they start developing BIM models on the basis of that. Again for developing accurate models there must be effective coordination and collaboration between interdisciplinary design development teams. This is crucial for averting the existence of errors in between the model elements of architecture, structure and MEP models and hence design teams link the model of other discipline in their project. This kind of coordination is very important for design development teams for enlightening themselves in terms of understanding the design of other discipline. This assists them in developing effective multidiscipline 3D models.
