MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (CMAA) Also known as Medical Office Assistants, these individuals perform administrative tasks to keep physicians’ offices and clinics running efficiently. This includes operating the computer systems, scheduling appointments, greeting patients, maintaining files and coordinating the collection of operating reports for management.

PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN (CPCT/CPCA/CNT)
These specialists will audit patient records for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, perform basic coding to submit claims for reimbursement and collect patient demographic and insurance information.
Also known as Nurse Technicians, these practitioners assist nurses and doctors providing direct patient care. This will include basic patientcare, such as bathing, feeding and ambulating patients. They will also obtain EKG readings, perform phlebotomy procedures and safety checks. 4
CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT (CCMA) These multi-skilled practitioners are competent in both clinical and administrative procedures. They perform many duties, including interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, administering injections and other venipuncture techniques.

BILLING AND CODING SPECIALIST (CBCS) These individuals convert medical procedures, diagnoses and symptoms into specific codes for submitting a claim for reimbursement. They will locate documentation in the patient record to support the coding and billing process, submit claims for reimbursement based on payer policies, and coach providers on the best documentation practices to support quality coding and optimal reimbursement.

EKG TECHNICIAN (CET) These professionals operate technology that records the electrical activity of a patient’s heart. EKG Technicians will set up and administer EKGs and stress tests, prepare patients for ambulatory monitoring and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis.

PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN (CPT) Phlebotomists draw blood from patients in hospitals, blood centers and clinics for analysis and testing. They perform basic point of care testing, such as blood glucose tests.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (ExCPT) These technicians perform work delegated by licensed pharmacists in accordance with state rules and regulations, including measuring and compounding medications, maintaining patient profiles and preparing insurance claim forms.
