The Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence is the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance in America’s community colleges. West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) has been named by The Aspen Institute as one of the ten finalists for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence each year since the prize’s inception in 2011. WKCTC was recognized as a Finalist with Distinction in both 2011 and 2015. West Kentucky was recognized for outstanding achievement in the areas of student learning outcomes, degree and college completion, labor market success in students securing jobs after college, and minority and lowincome student success. Our focus on improving student learning helps ensure our students graduate with the knowledge they need to secure jobs or transfer to four-year schools. Dr. Barbara M. Veazey West Kentucky Community and Technical College faculty and staff take President responsibility for improving student learning and work hard to identify and eliminate barriers to student success. We achieve excellence by focusing on improving student learning in core skills and by thoughtfully connecting programs to regional jobs, from credentials that fuel the region’s large health care sector to the nation’s first online associate degree in Marine Technology. According to a recent study by Economic Modeling Specialists, Inc. (EMSI), WKCTC contributes more than $126 million each year to the region through a combination of college operations, student spending, and productivity of graduates in the workforce. West Kentucky’s focus on access, retention, and student success enabled the College to achieve its vision of being recognized as a preeminent community college nationwide. The College is committed to continuing to provide high quality educational experiences, meet the educational needs of the college community, serve as a full partner in business and workforce development, and contribute to the overall economic and social wellbeing of the region by offering two-year transfer Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Fine Arts degrees; and Associate in Applied Science degree, diplomas, and certificates across a wide range of fields. At A Glance The success of West Kentucky Community and Technical College today stems from a unique blend of vision, strength and determination. In 1997, West Kentucky Technical College and Paducah Community College were united under one system umbrella when they joined the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). Six years later, the two colleges were consolidated to form West Kentucky
Community and Technical College - a comprehensive, regional college. In 2003, Dr. Barbara Veazey was inaugurated as the first president of West Kentucky Community and Technical College. Each year more than 8,000 students come to WKCTC seeking traditional two-year transfer associate degrees in arts, fine arts and science, applied science degrees, diplomas, or certificates.

WKCTC offers two-year Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.), Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.), and Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) degrees. These two-year degrees can be used to open up new career options or to complete the first half of a bachelor’s degree.

Mission Statement
The mission of West Kentucky Community and Technical College is to provide excellence in teaching and learning, promote student success, and support economic development. To accomplish this mission, the college will provide the following: • Academic, general education, and technical courses leading to certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees • A general academic curriculum of university-parallel courses meeting transfer requirements of the first two years of a baccalaureate degree • Technical and occupational curricula designed to meet current and future workforce needs • Community partnerships as an integral component in assessing and providing programs for cultural, educational, economic, and civic development • A comprehensive program of transitional education • Customized training to meet the changing needs of business and industry • Adult and continuing education • Associated services including, but not limited to, library services, cultural and enrichment opportunities, information technology resources, and student support services
