In the past two years, the pandemic brings massive changes to our daily routine. Time appears to be frozen at home. Our vibrant lifestyle marred by mask-wearing and social distancing, lockdown distanced us from family and friends as well as the possibility to travel abroad. Despite the many challenges and inconvenience, JCCAC remains committed to supporting local artists and art development. As we truly believe, even though we may be physically bound in our city, imagination and creativity can still soar. JCCAC Festival 2021 takes “Dream Catcher” as the theme to showcase the
myriad of works by over 40 tenant artists. Through a visual journey of artists’ dreams, the Festival presents to visitors a breath of fresh air for the mind.
The five-week Festival opens the door to this factory-turned artist village, where art presentation knows no limit. At the centre of the Festival sees
the feature exhibition “THE MOMENT”, curated by popular illustrator, Lam Pei, and co-presented by Art Venture Association, the exhibition invites over 20 fellow illustrators and artists to embark on a
dialogue with themselves in times of isolation and solitude. Through works of illustration, installation and sculptures, artists project complicated sentiments and seek emotional outlets, while reaching out to resonate with the audience.
Throughout the building on every floor, you can appreciate latest works presented by fellow tenant artists and cultural organisations at various common spaces. Whether it is a fanciful idea inspired by the new normal, or the persevering story towards chasing after one’s dream, there is certainly something for everyone in this feast of art.
To complete this artistic journey, do not forget to join the array of free activities, led by our much celebrated JCCAC Handicraft Fair, which remains a trusted platform between dozens of local artisans and craft-lovers. Other Festival-affiliated
programmes include art demonstrations, open air cinema, talks, performances, etc., which cover a wide range of art mediums from embroidery, photography, sculpture, ceramics, knitting to dancing, drama, film and animation. If you wish to have a closer look into arts and artists in their
creative lair, the public guided tours hosted on weekends is a must-join. All Festival programmes are free of charge and accessible to all.
Although there is a limitation in reality, imagination is infinite. As long as there is a will, the sky is the limit. We hope that JCCAC Festival 2021 can bring a brush of colour into your life through art. Are you ready to embark on a ride through artistic wonders and picturesque sceneries? Taking this opportunity to wish everyone good health and maintain enthusiasm to life’s little wonders. The best thing is yet to come in the next year!
