Johnson County runs past Penn Valley OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team placed 4 players in double figures while opening the 2011-2012 season with a resounding 94-79 victory. The Cavaliers improved their record to 1-0 and Penn Valley drops to 1-1. The Cavaliers built a 19 point cushion in the first half 46-27.

Johnson County took control of the game midway through the first half as Sophomore Guard Quasim Jones led the way scoring a game high 23 points, he also handed out 4 assists and recorded 3 steals.

Sophomore Chris Brasher chipped in with 16 points. He hit 3-of-6 shots from 3-point range and had 6 assists and 3 steals. 6-5 Sophomore Forward Justin Leathers scored 15 points and Pulled down 7 rebounds. 6-4 Freshman Christian Hildebrandt recorded the first double-double of his career with 11 points and 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Another key effort off the bench was turned in by 5-8 Sophomore Exavier Bass-Brooks with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals..

JCCC shot 56%( 38/67) from the floor and also recorded 22 assists.” We really did an excellent job of sharing the ball, running the floor and making open shots!” The Cavaliers also shot 71% from the freethrow line. Johnson County out rebounded the Scouts 41-32 and forced 27 turnovers. The Cavs also recorded 18 steals. “I think our rebounding and defense was a big key”.
