WelcometothestartofanewandexcitingseasonatCampShai!Wearethrilledtohaveyouandyourcampersjoin usforwhatpromisestobeasummerfilledwithunforgettableexperiences,growth,andfun.Wehavesomenew programs,initiatives,andcommunitygatheringsnottobemissedthissummer.
Newthissummer,allcamperswillparticipateinour“Makin’Mitzvahs”initiativewhichwillintroducecommunity serviceprojectsforallageseveryFridaybeforeourShabbatcelebration.Fromrandomactsofkindnesstoart projectstodogtoydrives,camperswilllearnmanywaystoappreciatethevariouscommunitiesthattheyareapart ofbothatcampandathome.
Asacamp,weareworkingtoimproveourday-to-daycommunicationwithyou,includinghavingpictures throughoutthedaytoletyouknowwhatyourcamperisupto!Thissummer,wewillbeusingBrightwheel.
Aswekickoffthisseason,wewanttohighlighttheadditionofanewmidda(value)toourwork-“ometzlev“whichdirectlytranslatesto“courageoftheheart.“Atcamp,webelievethatsteppingoutofone‘scomfortzone, facingchallengeshead-on,andlearningbothfromsuccessesandsetbacksareallessentialcomponentsof development.Encouragingresiliencefostersstrength,adaptability,andconfidenceinourcampers,preparingthem forwhateverlifemaythrowtheirway.Weareexcitedtofindnewandinnovativewaystotalktocampersabout courageousnessandtoencourageourcommunitytorecognizeandrewardthosethattakearisktolearn somethingnew,makeanewfriend,orleadacampsong.
Inadditiontoaddinganewmiddatoourranks,wearethrilledtolaunchanewcommunity-focusedinitiativethis summerandrevivesomeoldtraditionsthatallowfamiliestoexperiencethejoyofcamptogether.Whilekehillah (community)hasbeenanintegralpieceofCampShai’sworkformanysummers,wewantedtocreatemore opportunitiesforcamperstoconnectwiththeircommunity,tounderstandhowtheycancontributetoanuplifting andpositivecommunity,andtodemonstratehowwecancelebratethecommunitythatwedohave.
Additionally,wewillbeopeningupseveralShabbatcelebrationsthroughoutthesummerandinvitingparentsand otherfamilymemberstojoinandexperiencethejoyandmagicofourfavoritesongs,ourillustriousShabband,and never-endingpiesintheface!
Last,butcertainlynotleast,wewillberevivingthelongstandingtraditionofpizzapotlucksandhostingourfirst sincethepandemiconWednesday,July10th.Forthosenewtoourcommunity,thiseventwillbeopentoall familiesofcampersenrolledinourprogramsthissummer.Familiesareencouragedtobringapizzatosharewith thecommunityandourstaffwillbefacilitatingseveralactivitieswhereyouandyourfamilycanexperiencethejoy ofCampShaitogether.

AtCampShai,wearemorethanjustadaycamp.Weareacommunitymadeupofcampers,families, andstaff,allwiththesamedesire—togiveallkidsafunandsafespacetoexplore,imagine,and belong.CampShaiprovidesengagingactivitiesforourcampersthatsparktheirimaginationand inspirethemtocelebratetheirindividuality.
BEHAVIORALHEALTH&INCLUSIONPHILOSOPHY
CampShaiisaplacewhereALLcampersinourcarecanfeelsafe,nurtured,andaccepted. SunriseCare(7:30–8:30am):CampShaiisexcitedtoofferSunriseCare!Thisprogramis$20/dayor$80/week. CampersregisteredforSunriseCarewillgetanearlystarttotheircampdaywithavarietyofbooks,crafts,and gamesavailable.
SunsetCare(4:00–5:30pm):OurSunsettersgettofeelthecampmagicalittlelongerwithengaging,hands-on programmingdevisedbyourleadershipteam.SunsetCareis$40/dayor$160/week.Campersregisteredfor Sunsetwillgettomaketimelesscampcraftsandplayavarietyofgameswithothercampersandstaff.
WhenpickingyourchildupfromSunsetCare,pleasebeontime.AllcampersregisteredforSunsetCaremaybe pickedupaslateas5:30pmeachday.Ifachildispickeduppast5:30pm,a$25latefeewillbechargedtothe cardonfile.Ifachildisnotpickedupby5:30pm,andwearenotabletoreachtheirguardians,individuals listedonthechild’semergencyformwillbecalledtopickupthechild.Ifanauthorizedadultcannotbereach, thepolicewillbecalledtothepremises.

Intheeventthatinclementweatherimpactsourpick-upordrop-offprocedures,ourcampadministrationteam willmessageallfamiliesviatheBrightwheelapptoaddressanychangestoourregularprocedures.Typically, intheeventofrainorthunder,theprimarychangewillbetomoveallcampersinsideaclassroomwhilewaiting fortheirpeerstoarriveorwaitingtobedismissed.Whilethisdoesnotcreateavisiblechangeforfamilies,it typicallyresultsinaslightdelayinourproceduresascamperswillneedtowalkfarthertothegates.
Wemonitortheweatherreportsregularlyandwillmakesuretocommunicatewithfamiliesassoonaswe knowifthereareanyanticipateddelaysorchanges.Intheeventofsevereweather,wewillhaltourhug-andgoserviceandaskthatparentsandfamiliescomeintoourfacilities.Wewilldoourbesttocommunicatetoall familiescurrentlyinthehug-and-golineaboutthischangeandwillsendamessageviatheBrightwheelapp.

Afterlunch,eachcampergroupwillhavetheopportunitytoparticipateina“mitzvah”orgooddeedthat contributestoourcampcommunity,theJCCcommunity,orthelargerDenverarea.Ouryoungestcamperswill spintheirMitzvahwheelsandchoosefromaselectionofwordsofgratitude,randomactsofkindness,or writingletterstolovedones.Campersinotheragegroupswillparticipateinchallengesandactivitiessuchas makingno-sewdogtoysforalocalanimalshelter,creatingsomethingnewoutofrecycledmaterials,or creatingpaperflowersforanupcomingWolfTheaterperformance.Eachweekwillpresentanewopportunity forcamperstogivebackandlearnmoreaboutthetruenatureofkehillah(community).
GroupShabbat

CampShaifollowstheColoradoDepartmentofPublicHealth(CDPH)LicePolicy: TheColoradoDepartmentofPublicHealth(CDPH)recommendsthatschoolsandchild-carefacilitiesmaintainan activeeducationalcampaignforguardiansontheaccuratediagnosisandcorrecttreatmentofheadlicecasesto preventtransmissionofliceinschoolsandreducelostschooldaysduetoheadliceinfestation.Headlice,whilea significantsocialproblem,donottransmitdiseasetohumans.Traditionally,headlicepoliciesinschools emphasizedthatachildinfestedwithheadlicecouldnotreturntoschooluntilnonitswerefoundintheirhair (“no-nit”policy).

Mycamperhasmadeanewfriendandwe'dlovetoscheduleaplaydatewiththem.CanI coordinatewithShaitogettheirfamily'scontactinformation? Whilewelovewhenfamilieswanttotreattheircamper’sgroup,wedoaskthateveryonefollowafew guidelinestohelpusensurethatwearekeepingcamperssafe.Weaskthatfamiliesreachouttoourcamp administrationteamwithatleast48hoursnoticesothatwecanconfirmanyallergiesordietaryneedsinyour camper’sgroupthatmayneedtobeconsidered.Wealsoaskthatanytreatsbroughtintocamparefor everyoneinyourcamper‘sgroupandarepre-packaged(popsiclesareagreatoption!).
