Jewish Community Center (JCC) First Monday of the Month, August 3 Movie – Arranged Rochel is an Orthodox Jew and Nasira is a Muslim of Syrian origin. They are both young teachers at a public school in Brooklyn. They also have something else in common – they are going through the process of getting arranged marriages through their respective religious and traditional customs. With both family pressure on the one hand and the rejection of traditional values by the outside world on the other, Rochel and Nasira will have to rely on each other and their friendship to pull through this difficult time of their lives, striving to be strong women in charge of their own happiness, while keeping their deep religious and cultural convictions. Tuesdays Senior Forum August 4 – Gary Tessler, retired radio and television broadcaster, winner of an Emmy Award for his PBS television show, Tessler Live, will discuss current issues on the world stage. Jewish Family Services Wednesdays, beginning August 5 Bereavement Support Group Rafael Spiritual Healing Center, a program of Jewish Family Service, will offer an eight-week Spiritual Healing Bereavement Support Group. The group, which meets weekly over an eight-week period through September 23, will provide spiritual and psychological support for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. It will offer a unique Jewish perspective to the grieving process. The Spiritual Healing Bereavement Support Group will be co-facilitated by Rabbi Eliot Baskin, D.Min, Jewish Community Chaplin, and Arleen Gershen, LCSW, a JFS psychotherapist. Participants are asked to make a commitment to attend all eight sessions.
