Jewish Food News Colorado Kosher Provides

Spotlight The Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center (JCC) The Denver JCC was founded in 1922. In 1955, under the leadership of the Allied Jewish Community Council and with the assistance of the National Jewish Welfare Board, a survey of the Denver Community was conducted. The findings were that there was a need for a Jewish Community Center building in Denver.

On June 17, 1962 the Denver Jewish Community Center opened its doors at the corner of Alameda and Dahlia, its existing location.

In 1995 the after extensive renovations the Center was dedicated as the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center in honor of Mr. Loup's leadership and service. The JCC currently has over 5000 Jewish and Non-Jewish members and serves thousands more a year through its many programs which include an early childhood center (ECC), Sports & Fitness Center, day camp, residential camp, and programming for young families to older adults.

This year the ECC, operating since 1935, celebrates 75 years of Growing our Future. They are proud of their philosophy which is designed to help develop the whole child: socially, intellectually, emotionally and physically. Look for information on their year-long anniversary celebration.

This campus also houses MACC, Mizel Arts & Culture Center, one of the Rocky Mountain region's premier arts organizations. MACC is a separate non-profit organization guided by a mission that is focused specifically on arts and cultural programs. MACC illuminates the human experience through creative and cultural programs in the performing, visual and literary arts for the Jewish community and the Denver community at large. Some of their signature events include JAAMM (Jewish Arts, Authors, Movies and Music) Fest in the fall, the Denver Jewish Film Festival in February and Denver Children's Theatre in the spring.

Jewish Food News Colorado Kosher Provides Quality Kosher Meat Colorado Kosher was established in 2008 by Jeff and Terri Auerbach to raise the bar on the quality of the meat available to the kosher consumer.

In Denver, home of Colorado Kosher, 4th generation meat entrepreneur Julie Auerbach took on the task of providing quality kosher products to her hometown.

Colorado Kosher provides a line of Angus, graded, glatt kosher, 100% US Beef. "We want you to enjoy your meat the way your non-kosher friends brag about the best prime steak house they visited", states Julie.

Auerbach's Kosher Foods was established in 1993 as a distributor of quality Kosher Meats and Kosher products to the Rocky Mountain Region. The parent company, Auerbach's Meat Co., has been in business since 1967. The cattle business goes back to when Abraham Auerbach-obm immigrated from Europe and continued his profession of cattle buying here in Colorado. His son, Ralph Auerbach, worked alongside his father until purchasing LYCO Meat Co. in 1967.

Inspiration Jason Bahl Since joining the marketing team in January as the new web designer, Jason Bahl has been the person behind your weekly In the E-Loup e-mails, this bi-weekly Edibly Fit News Bites and any website updates and changes. In addition, Jason is a CSA shareholder.

Jason graduated from The Metropolitan State College of Denver in May with a bachelor's degree in Photojournalism and a minor in Interactive Media. Jason has already won awards for web design and filmmaking and also works independently as a photographer. Jason's lively spirit and fresh ideas have already brought new life to the JCC and MACC websites and e-communications. Named "Top Team" at the JCC, the marketing department is proud to have Jason join in their efforts to spread the word about the JCC and MACC!

Green News Take a Bite out of Hunger Food Drive at the JCC- July 15th The JCC will be conducting a food drive for both the Denver Metro Food Bank and Jewish Family Service. Donations will need to be earmarked as Kosher. Please bring your NON-PERISHABLE food donations to the JCC on July 15th. Drop offs will be at the Lower JCC Entrance between the hours of 7 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Look for the JCC "Take a Bite out of Hunger" display.

Metro Food Bank's mission is to eliminate hunger in the Denver metro area by providing emergency food to anyone who is hungry.

Jewish Family Service of Colorado (JFS) is committed to providing vital community resources to anyone facing a life challenge, no matter which leg of life's journey they are traveling. Recipe: Sauteed Spinach Ingredients spinach leaves from your CSA (1 ½ lbs if you have it) 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 6 cloves of garlic 2 teaspoons kosher salt ¾ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional) ½ lemon Rinse the spinach well in cold water to make sure it's very clean. Spin it dry in a salad spinner, leaving just a little water clinging to the leaves or pat dry with a kitchen cloth.

In a very large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil and sauté the garlic over medium heat for about 1 minute, but not until it's browned. Add all the spinach, the salt, and pepper to the pot, toss it with the garlic and oil, cover the pot, and cook for 2 minutes. Uncover the pot, turn the heat on high, and cook the spinach for another minute, stirring with a wooden spoon, until all the spinach is wilted. Using a slotted spoon, lift the spinach to a serving bowl and top with the butter, a squeeze of lemon, and a sprinkling of kosher salt. Serve hot and enjoy!
