In addition, the Wolf theatre academy is hosting a glorious season of engaging musicals and straight plays such as Legally Blonde, Harry Potter, Peter Pan, Hairspray Jr., and more! children will have the chance to sing, dance, and act their thespian hearts out on our beautiful elaine Wolf theatre stage and/or in our artsy pluss theatre black box. Whether your child is new to the theatre scene, or a seasoned professional, our Wta camps will encourage and engage your soon-to-be Broadway star! no matter which camp experience you choose for your child, jcc camps will support and encourage your camper all summer long. get excited, get ready, and register for summer 2019 today, because we are getting CAMPED! 303.316.6445 | jccdenver.org/camps

Frequently ASked questions SChOLARShIP FAQ’S Q: How do i apply for scholarships? a: Find more information and submit an application at jccdenver.org/camps

Q: What is the application fee? a: $45 Q: Will i be reimbursed for the application fee if i don’t qualify? a: unfortunately the fee is paid to a 3rd party company to process the application, and therefore not eligible for a refund. Q: What is the maximum amount of financial aid available? a: typically, we do not award more than 50% of your total balance. Q: How is the application reviewed to see if i qualify? a: our 3rd party company reviews the application and subtracts identified expenses from reported income. they then measure the disposable income after expenses relative to the tuition for the registered program. their trademarked formula then recommends a financial aid award. our scholarship committee meets to review the recommended award and budget according to our available funding. Q: What information will i need for the application? a: You will need to provide an itemized list of income (employment, trusts, investments, gifts, etc.) as well as an itemized list of expenses (housing, medical, car, utilities, etc.) You will also need to list assets and liabilities. You will be asked to answer custom questions from our organization. additionally you will need to provide your tax information. We will be accepting the previous year’s taxes. You will have an opportunity to submit a family letter as well explain any circumstances you think would help the scholarship committee have a better picture of your family’s current circumstances.

WOLF ThEATRE ACADEMy FACTS AbOuT PRODuCTIOnS 2019 Changes all student art, ceramics, and theatre classes for students from grades K – 8 will take place at Graland Country Day school and will be managed as Camp Shai Specialty camps. See page 11 for more information. also, we have changed the weeks in which we offer the mainstage productions this year. For the past few years, we have begun our mainstage program in week one of summer. this year we will begin our mainstage productions in week two. musical mainstage one will run June 10 – 30; musical mainstage two will run July 1 – 21; Shakespeare mainstage three will run July 22 – august 11.

Can my student miss a day of class/performance? Students enrolled in performance Workshop (grades 3 – 6) or mainstage performance/technical apprenticeship (grades 6 – 12), should plan to attend all rehearsals and performances. extensive absences may result in the reduction or elimination of a student’s performance responsibilities. Students who will miss even a single performance of a production should not register for the class. performances are mandatory. acting students who miss one day of any performance class for any reason, including illness, may be re-cast at the instructor’s discretion. We are unable to fully engage students that plan to miss a performance. Will my student have rehearsal on summer holidays and weekends? Families planning activities or trips should not sign up for a performance/ production workshop if it conflicts with their plans. please read the class descriptions carefully, as most workshops list mandatory attendance for Sunday rehearsals and performances including Father’s Day (Sunday, June 16). the mizel arts and Culture Center is closed on thursday, July 4 – no classes or rehearsals; mainstage performance will have a make-up “called rehearsal” the Sunday prior (meaning only selected students will be called to this rehearsal).

to familiarize themselves with the show as much as possible. Since the directors will chose the audition piece to be used, we cannot guarantee that the student will be able to audition with a piece they have worked on. please note that the director reserves the right to alter the script during the rehearsal process.

How is the show cast? We make every effort to ensure that all youth are engaged by the collaborative effort needed to put on a play through rehearsing, observing, and independent studying. Some children, especially those who have less theatrical experience, or who are moving into a new age category, may initially be disappointed with their casting. parents should understand that even if a child is disappointed with his or her casting, tuition cannot be refunded. We cannot promise specific parts to any student, and no student should expect a leading role or preferential treatment in any production. all of our directors are given the professional courtesy of casting the productions as they see fit. this is a subjective determination based on their experience, the composition of actors assembled, the specific needs of the play, and the outcome on the day of auditions.

How do auditions work? how should my student prepare? Both the performance Workshops and mainstage production Workshops hold auditions on the first day of class. these are done in the form of “cold readings” from the script. Cold-readings are read straight from the script with very little or no preparation time in class. the script will be sent to the provided email (registration process), so that the student can familiarize themselves with the characters ahead of time*. For the musicals, students will be taught a musical number and dance combination with a song from the show. While we do not expect students to prepare ahead of time, some students prepare for the possibility of singing particular numbers. all students are encouraged

OuR RATIOS We believe having low student-teacher ratios creates opportunities for teachers to create stronger relationships with children and families. this foundation provides teachers and children with the ability to share knowledge among themselves and create learning experiences that are individualized for the classrooms and the children. as a school, we follow the ratio’s that have been set by the national association of the education of Young children. (www.naeYc.org) WATER TIME AnD SWIMMInG LESSOnS the purpose of our swimming lessons is to give children the opportunity to get used to the water through play and positive experience. We feel that it’s important to teach children water safety at a young age in order to foster a strong sense of awareness and confidence. We believe, your child will be able to learn, and benefit, from the “community center” aspect of our program. OuR PhILOSOPhy By attending the els, all children will receive specialized attention and tools to enhance their education journey. We take pride in treating each and every student as their own unique person and foster an educational environment where children are free to be themselves and learn valuable lessons such as compassion, curiosity, and innovation. children will learn to respect one another, and themselves, during their time at the els. our play-based curriculum encourages children to make their own choices within a small group dynamic. the physical environment is also viewed as an integral partner in your child’s experience learning experience. our reggioemilio inspired classrooms bring the natural environment indoors while creating an authentic and engaging feel for our students. a school is only as strong as it’s teachers and we provide ongoing and in-depth professional development for our staff. In addition, our intentional community encourages parents to be a strong part of the education process. What’s not to love? come discover what the els is all about today.

DISCOVER: CATCh discover: catcH, which brings a jewish focus to the curriculum, provides a way for jccs to promote a love of physical activity and healthy nutritional habits to the early childhood education department. children learn about “whoa” and “go” foods, and how to make healthy choices. through jcc association training, jccs engage families with young children in a lifelong commitment to wellness. MuSIC research shows that music supports the cognitive development of children to connect with emotions and shared experiences. as a school, we provide weekly engagement with our music teacher, and offer on-going experiences in the classroom. In an effort to connect our children with the greater school community and larger jewish community, we also have shabbat sing each Friday.
