Temple Sinai Announces Encore will offer an exciting series of classes, including Hebrew I & II; The Bible After the Torah: The Prophets & Writings; Ruach! New Jewish Music; Jewish Prayer and Yoga; and Adult Confirmation. The Temple Sinai Monthly Book Group will meet next on Wednesday, November 18 to discuss Phillip Roth’s book, Indignation, Annette Finesilver is facilitating a 10-week program on memoir-writing and starting in January, Encore will sponsor a film series that will take place on the first Thursday of each month. Encore West Side Denver history tour led by Phil Goodstein in September
Temple Sinai is pleased to announce Encore,a group designed to appeal to a diverse audience of active, involved adults, ages 50 and over. Recent popular and successful events include a late summer bus tour over Guanella Pass to Georgetown and Silver Plume and a West Side Denver history tour, led by Phil Goodstein, which featured many sites including the old BMH and Temple Emanuel synagogues, the Golda Meir House, the Jewish Orphanage for Boys, JCRS and Yeshiva Toras Chaim. In October, Encore sponsored an Ethnic Market Tour and shopping at seven different markets including Italian, Korean, Ukranian, Parisian, Middle Eastern, a deli and an English Tea Room. On November 14, Encore will be sponsoring a Chavurot Fair in conjunction with a dinner and Havdallah service which is designed to increase the number of Chavurot at Temple Sinai and to get more people involved so they have a better sense of community. In addition to Encore events, Temple Sinai also offers a variety of educational programs. Every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m., “Lunch and Learn”presents an open forum on various topics lead by Rabbi Richard Rheins or Rabbi Jay TelRav.“Sinai Sundays”, beginning on November 8,

Movie Monday, November 2 The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler Irena Sendler was one of the most remarkable - and most unlikely heroes of World War II, saving 2500 Jewish children during the German occupation of Poland. As a social worker, Irena had access to the Warsaw Ghetto and she realized that thousands of children were in danger. Irena recruited sympathetic friends and co-workers to smuggle children out and place them in safe homes, farms and convents. Wednesday, November 11 Veterans Day Dessert Reception Join us at a dessert reception to honor our Jewish war veterans. Guest speaker will be Rabbi Don Levy who served twenty-six years on active duty in the U.S. armed forces, the first 14 as a crypto-linguist in the U.S. Navy and the last 12 as a chaplain in the US Air Force. During his years as a chaplain, he deployed in support of Operation Northern Watch in 2000 and in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and 2006. From 2004 to 2006, while stationed at Ramstein Air Base Germany, he covered all of U.S. European Command as the only U.S. forces rabbi based on continental Europe. He retired from the Air Force in 2008 and currently serves as spiritual leader of Temple Beit Torah in Colorado Springs.
