The committee also reviewed the results of the March 9th group process check. Study planner Mickee Brown explained the Findings review process for today and the next two weeks. The chair will ask for comments on each page of the document. To move through the process efficiently, focus on the content of the document, particularly what is missing from the Findings. If the narrative conveys the wrong message or is inaccurate, please speak up during the group discussion. Note typographical or grammatical errors on the draft document and hand in to staff at the end of the meeting to aid in the editing process. After the Findings process, the staff will edit and layout the document so it is easy to read and pleasing to the eye. The Chair led the committee in a review of pages 2 through 10 that begin with the table of contents. The following suggestions were made during the meeting. Page 2 Change sub headers 1) attracting, 2) creating, and 3) retaining jobs and businesses to “retain existing jobs”, “rapidly create new jobs”, and “position the region for long-term economic growth” to mimic the information on page 4 of the Findings. Page 3 Executive summary should include the study purpose. Page 4 Update regional population reference to 1.5 million people Page 5 Include rail and air as valuable assets. Update land use percentages so that it states how 100 percent of the land in the region is used. Include map with commuter patterns. Include charts with unemployment by race and age. Define educational attainment and education outcomes. Include chart with population per industry and number of jobs lost per industry.

Page 6 Delete asset list for primary industries – logistics, medical, and military. List Cornerstone partners and how the organization is funded. Provide dollar amount and/or percentage of tax revenue lost from recession onset to present as well a devaluation of property over the same period. Page 8 Change “Northeast Florida’s Job Creation Strategy” to “Northeast Florida’s current Job Creation Strategies”. Page 10 Provide number of officers vs. enlisted men who remain in Jacksonville after completing military service. Other comments Because a great deal of land is devoted to agriculture verify the types of plants that are grown (ferns, trees, and sod?). Note population increases relative to changes in unemployment. Add a glossary of terms. Use the appendix to display detailed charts and reference data in the narrative rather than the chart. Include section headers to make the document easier to read. Insert a section discussing the relationship between the labor force and meeting the needs of employers. The Chair reminded the committee to attend next week’s meeting and asked them to complete their group process check forms. The meeting was adjourned at 1:40 PM.
