PROGRAMS

Early Childhood Education (ECE)

United Way Professional Development Grant

JCC Early Childhood Education (ECE) was pleased to receive United Way of Central Indiana's Empower to Educate grant! This grant funded a meaningful professional development session from Lakeshore Learning called Self-Care: Empowering Educators to Prioritize their Needs, which provided tools for ECE teachers to enhance their self-care and mindfulness practices, allowing them to continue to effectively support the academic, social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of the children in the ECE program. Plus, the educators got to enjoy each other's company at a teacher appreciation dinner as a thank-you for their dedication!

JCC FITNESS Group Ex Schedule Going Digital

See schedule changes and get notifications in real time! The JCC's new Daxko integration allows for up-to-the-minute changes on the digital schedule itself (as opposed to updating website tables and re-printing and uploading PDFs), AND allows JCC members to reserve spots in Group Ex classes* ensuring both a spot in the class and an automatic email** if the class is cancelled, has a sub or is otherwise edited (no more needing to check the website every time).

Find the digital schedule and reserve your spot in class online at JCCindy.org/schedules (no need to change that webpage bookmark) or on the new JCC app (download at JCCindy.org/jcc-indianapolis-app).

*Please note: Spots may be reserved for paid Mind/Body or Aquatics classes, but class access must still be paid for outside the schedule (drop-ins and aquatics punch passes at the Welcome Desk; unlimited Mind/Body at JCCindy.org/programs. Similarly, JFIT Thrive and Drive classes are listed but spots may not be reserved as session-based classes must be registered for at JCCindy.org/programs

**Please note: Only registered class participants will receive this email.

up for a FREE monthly education series in 2025! The first class will be held on Mon, Jan 13 from 1–2 pm, and the rest will continue on the second Monday of the month but at 10 am.

First topic: Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body

For centuries, humans have known that the health of the brain and the body are connected. But now, science is able to provide insights into how lifestyle choices may help you keep your brain and body healthy as you age. This course teaches about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement.

Not one but TWO tai chi classes join the January Group Exercise schedule!

• Eight-Week Beginning Tai Chi | FREE Mon, Jan 6–Feb 24 | 12:45–1:30 pm

This class will progress through step-by-step instruction on each of the basic Sun style tai chi movements.

• Tai Chi for Balance and Core Stability Mondays | 3:15–4 pm

Tai Chi for Balance and Core Stability is mindbody exercise emphasizing balance, weight transference, and slow, fluid movement

Regular tai chi practice strengthens core stabilizer muscles of the back and abdomen and helps build stamina and flexibility.

Please note that Tai Chi for Balance and Core Stability is part of the JCC's paid mind/body (yoga, Pilates, tai chi, etc.) program, for $12 drop-in fee or $45 per month for unlimited.

2025 Improvements

JCC staff have been brainstorming ways to make the JCC more hospitable and engaging for members, and are excited to implement the following ideas sooner than later!

Operation Welcoming Lobby

Walk in to a more inviting space! The JCC will be sprucing up the Welcome Desk lobby at the beginning of 2025. Stay tuned for details!

Yom HaMishpacha (Family Day)

Bring the whole family and learn about all the different kinds of sports and fitness opportunities the JCC has to offer for all ages at Yom HaMishpacha (Family Day)!

JCC staff and community volunteers are excited to host a day in which families are invited to participate in activities designed for the entire family to enjoy, showcasing all the programming the JCC has to offer. The intention of this experience is to serve to make connections among members and continue to strengthen the community.

The plan is for different spaces in the facility to host various activities. Potential ideas include sports activities in the gyms, pool, and tennis courts; demonstrations in the Mordoh Fitness Center and Marcia and Bruce Sklare JFIT Studio; and snacks and refreshments in the J Café.

Non-members welcome, though there will be a discounted rate for JCC member families. More details including timing, official programming, sign-up and pricing to come!
