Students are introduced to a great variety of media-drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, assemblage, and book arts-as well as the work of classical and contemporary artists as it relates to their own art work. Students are given freedom to choose the projects that most interest them, and are given a great deal of individual attention and encouragement. The Marantz Art Fellowship is partially subsidized by a grant from the Marantz family, making it very affordably priced. Adler Aphasia Center at JCC MetroWest

The Adler Aphasia Center at JCC MetroWest welcomes people of all ages who have been diagnosed with aphasia.

Contact Wendy Greenspan, Program Director, 973-530-3981 (wgreenspan@adleraphasiacenter.org) for more information and to set up a tour. Adler Aphasia Center A Place of Reconnection of Rediscovery, of Recovery. Welcome to the Adler Aphasia Center- a place of hope. We are a resource for people with aphasia, their caregivers, and the community. Through our innovative group therapy led by licensed speech-language pathologists, we provide a stimulating environment to improve communication and cognitive skills and strengthen social connections to help you live a fuller, richer life.

How do we help people with aphasia and their caregivers? •

Through group activities, the arts, technology, and fitness and caregiver support groups, our programs help our members and their families reconnect with life by:

Improving communication skills

Exercising cognitive skills

Building self-esteem

Making social connections

Building strategies to help families meet the challenges of aphasia

How is the Adler Aphasia Center structured? •

Members with aphasia participate in 3 groups a day

Groups activities change by the semester, based on member interests

The program meets on a semester basis, twice a week for 15 weeks (3 semesters a year)

What is the cost to attend? Cost is $750 a semester ($25 a day). This is less than one-third of the Center’s actual cost per member. Scholarships are available- no one is turned away for their inability to pay.

What is a day like at the Adler Aphasia Center?

Sample groups include: brain fitness, computer labs working with language based software, skill-building handwriting and spelling, fitness, advocacy, aphasia 101, current events, cards and games, jewelry and gift design. Is long term rehabilitation possible? The Adler Aphasia Center at JCC MetroWest’s primary focus is on direct services for people living with aphasia and their caregivers. At the Center’s flagship campus in Maywood, research is being conducted that demonstrates that over a one-year period, our members with aphasia experienced a significant increase in functional language and perceived quality of life due to their participation in Adler Aphasia Center programs.

Want to learn more? Join us on October 10 for a Life Long Learning lecture by Barbara Tomlinson on the artist Gustav Klimt, and especially the ground breaking portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer.

Brilliant Attorneys on the Big Screen Mondays, October 22 & 29 • 10:30am Join us as we enjoy two films that originated as acclaimed thrillers (in date order): Citizen Cohn Roy Cohn (James Woods) was a brutal genius attorney—and he knew it. He helped bring the Rosenbergs to trial as spies. He then destroyed lives as Senator Joe McCarthy’s (Joe Don Baker) right-hand man during the 1950’s witch hunt for Communists. Later, he stood against the Kennedys, fighting their support of civil rights while befriending FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover and attempting to undermine the leadership of Martin Luther King. To many, Cohn was a national hero, to others, he was national disgrace.
